I again thinking of Roberto Di Matteo's press conference the other day when he spoke of the expectations of Chelsea this season and it got me thinking about what would be an "acceptable" season for many of you the Chelsea fans out there looking ahead to the new season.
Di Matteo said:
"Having won the European title might bring some expectations, yes, but I think it's a club that has always had expectations. That is nothing new for our players.(Source)
I don't see any reason to change. I am the way I am - this is me. The way I operate is me and that's not going to change in the future.
I have my way to communicate with the players and I will continue with that. My job is to make them feel confident and to put their talent for the service of the team and try to win games.
We certainly have to make up ground [in the Premier League] because we finished 25 points behind the leaders so that's going to be a big job."
Now, the Premier League HAS to be a priority for Chelsea once again this season. To finish 25 points behind the eventual winners is unheard of in recent seasons and it's vitally important that we are able to close the gap on the likes of City or United, or even push to win it once more.
The thing is thinking about it, what would be an acceptable finish in the Premier League? Would it be just to finish in the top four, three or to challenge for the title?.
Thinking of the Premier League apart, we've had a fantastic record in the last four years in the FA CUP by winning the competition three times. Surely we would want to focus on continuing our record wouldn't we?
Once again the Champions League will remain a competition the club would want to do well in. Roman Abramovich said after we won the competition in Munich that "This is only the beginning" and expect Chelsea to challenge once more.
As for the League Cup, I would suggest that maybe this season, Chelsea will use the competition to field a mixture of squad players and youngsters.
The reason being, this season, we now have TWO extra competitions to compete in and they are the UEFA Super Cup and also the World Club Cup. Obviously, we would want to win both of these competitions and because of that, you would understand the League Cup becoming less of a priority.
So Chelsea fans in thinking about all this, I am asking you the question:
What should Chelsea's priorities be for the coming season?
KTBFFH
Win fa cup, win uefa super cup, win world club cup, at least semi in league cup, at least semi in champions league, win community shield and challenge for the league not ending less than 3rd
ReplyDeletechampions league retain,fa cup,super cup,world club cup..end in 2nd or 3rd position.
ReplyDeleteLanre says it best.
ReplyDeleteNice.
Only difference I'd make is I'd want to be 1st team to succesfully defend title of European Champion (as it is in it's most recent format)
Shoot on the Moon if u miss you will Land among the Stars, let them make all the competition a must(priority) win. They never can tell where their Luck Lies. Just like nobody could hav believ that last season was our CL Year
