Sir Alex Ferguson has had his say (as he does on most things) about Chelsea overnight and has already tried to put pressure on us for this season. Fergie, like most football fans will know, Chelsea had been fighting to win the Champions League ever since Roman Abramovich took over as owner and now we have won it, Fergie believes there will be even more pressure at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking in China, Fergie said:
"I think the owners have got their enthusiasm back. Having won the Champions League, there’s more expectation on them now.
That was the trophy Roman (Abramovich) always wanted to win, so he’s invested in the team again this summer. It’s a challenge for us, I suppose, and we always respect Chelsea. You just have to wait and see how good these players are."
I disagree with Fergie straight off the bat as a Chelsea fan because I don't see how the owners have ever lost their enthusiasm!. Look at the bold decisions they have made as far as managers go especially with AVB. Having paid out the money they did, to then see things going wrong and to make arguably the key decision of the season when they did, indicates to me that "upstairs" their hunger never wavered!.
Now the fact that Chelsea have invested in the squad again is something that the likes of Fergie and most football "pundits" including the press have been saying we should have done maybe two or three seasons ago!.
I have said on here that this summer has seen the start of Roman's second coming at Chelsea and the signings of Hazard, Marin, De Bruyne and hopefully Oscar this week indicate that.
I posted the other day that Manchester City should be well aware that Chelsea are coming for their title and I think the likes of Mancini and Fergie will be aware that we won't be 25 points off the title this season.
OK, Fergie is wondering about our new players and how they settle in the Premier League but if I was him, I would be worried about his own players.
Manchester City are now the benchmark and Chelsea have taken steps to close the gap. United need to do the same or they will find themselves off the pace.
As for Roman Abramovich's enthusiasm, he said in the dressing room in Munich after we were finally crowned European Champions that it was "just the beginning!" so let's see what happens this season.
One thing is for sure. Chelsea will be there fighting for the title!
KTBFFH!
Yes these are all true, Sir Alex is a great manager indeed but the truth be told the Abramovich never really lost his enthusiasm in the first place. His hunger for victory remained strong especially at European levels, my guess is the same, he (Fergie) should concentrate on his team that needs serious mid field boost
