I thought that Roberto Di Matteo's press conference yesterday was impressive. It comes as no surprise really because of the way he handled himself here with the media ever since he took over the club, but yesterday bearing in mind it was his first "official" press conference as an installed, permanent manager, he spoke with plenty of optimism.
Of course the press have focused on the Pep Guardiola rumour and asked him of this yesterday which I do think was uncalled for, especially after the club backed him and rewarded him for his achievements last term.
Robbie was keen to point out that although we have lost Drogba, Bosingwa and Kalou, we still have an experienced squad here with the additions of Hazard, Marin and De Bruyne so far.
He also spoke of the fact that as a club we need to be able to compete in the league much better than we did last term. He openly admitted that finishing 25 points behind the eventual champions wasn't good enough and that was great to hear.
I was pleased he answered the critics yesterday who spoke of Chelsea's defensive approach in the Champions League. How many times have we heard the saying "Playing the Chelsea way!"? and constant referrals to the way we played to win games.
Robbie pointed out that we had to play a certain way against Barcelona to beat them and against Bayern which is what we HAD TO do at the time. He pointed out the injuries we had and also the fact that people seem to forget the Napoli at home result along with the FA Cup semi final result against Spurs!.
He stated that we had averaged 2 goals per game and pointed out that his team will create chances and score goals.
Overall he spoke really well, was really positive about the new season, the new signings and continuing the job he did last season.
There is plenty to be positive about this coming season and I can't wait for it to start!.
