I have to say Roman Abramovich and the Chelsea board have surprised me this week, they really have!.
Now I know with Euro 2012 coming up, the Top European clubs will be looking to get their summer signings done and dusted before the competition starts or shortly after if deals are already in place, but the fact that Chelsea have acted quickly has surprised me.
Not willing to rest on finally winning the Champions League, Roman and Chelsea have sent a message of clear intent to the football world that we are here to stay as we looked to rebuild our squad and take the club forward.
Looking at the players brought into our club over recent seasons, the transition has become clear. David Luiz, Sturridge, Torres, Ramires, Mata, Lukaku, DeBruyne, Courtois, Cahill, Marin, Hazard and Hulk are all players with age on their side and with the best part of their careers in front of them.
Chelsea have been slaughtered by the press for their spending and have had to bear being the brunt being referred to every single time the Financial Fair Play ruling is mentioned.
The thing is, looking at the ages of these players we have in our squad now, they are set for a good few years of being together, learning from each other and forming the basis of the core of our side which puts in good stead for the future.
Chelsea won't need to spend silly money on players anymore as we now have the basis of a team that can hopefully be successful as a unit for a few years and while that us happening, incorporate the likes of Bertrand, Chabolah, Piazon and more younger players coming through.
Roman has been working away with the Chelsea board as usual season in, season out and somewhat under the radar of most people if you think of the players I have mentioned.
Chelsea have been labelled as a side of players that are "passed it" or "over the hill" and up until a couple of months ago that was still the same. We have kept hearing that Chelsea need to regenerate the team and someone has to come in to do it. The simple fact remains that Roman and the board have already been doing it.
Once we see our squad return for pre-season and we take a look around the players we have there, you will see what I see and what I am saying.
Chelsea are in fantastic shape for now and for the future and already have the core of the side in place to take this club forward, onto bigger and better things.
The thing is, like I said, the press haven't quite picked up on that yet!
KTBFFH!
