Romelu Lukaku isn't happy and I have to admit I don't blame him at all. The £18m signing has played a bit part in Chelsea's successful season last term and it wasn't at all what he was expecting.
Lukaku has spoken of his experience last term and about the immediate future.
He said:
"I will need to talk to the coach about my future, I hope for a coach next year who gives chances to young players, not like last year. If he does not want to talk to me, then I'm considering a loan.(Source)
But at the moment my focus is on Chelsea. I will go with them on summer tour and I hope to get some new chances. I think I deserved more chances at Chelsea. What I really need is three months to prove myself.
Last year I played a game, then nothing for three weeks except games with the reserves and then I was on the bench. That is not easy for a young player. I also said that to Chelsea and they understood my concerns.
I have become a better player though. I lost weight, I move a lot more on the field and I really think I have the ability to play for Chelsea."
The thing is, I really believe that he will become much more involved next season. Think about it, Didier Drogba has announced he is leaving at the end of June so it's a perfect time to elevate Lukaku into the fold.
Romelu Lukaku will give Chelsea a different option if for instance in games, playing Torres as the main striker isn't working and we need something different.
The potential signings of Eden Hazard and Hulk will give Chelsea options around the main striker but Lukaku will be that "other" option we will need.
I know it's hard for Lukaku, but after a season of struggles, this time next year he will be so much happier. Mark my words!
KTBFFH!
I'm NOT surprised he dint play regularly last season cos Drogba, Torres fighting for 1 spot! I tink d board bought him (confirmed by AVB)early to 1st- prevent other clubs coming into d fray hence increasing his FEE. 2nd- they knew Drogba would be leavin hence he shld learn from him closely. 3rd-get adapted to english football (hence dint loan him out of england) with Carling cup as a good option but we crashed out very early! Having said that, I'm still sceptical about NOT loaning him out next season! Though I agree he'll b our plan B, but how many times would we b using plan B? 1. If we're losing; so a manager would trust "a rookie" with very very little game time to go & win a match! 2. If we're Winning WELL; but remembering Sturridge would also be 2nd to Torres, hence its likely he'll be d one to come on other than Lukaku! So I still feel he shld b loaned to a LONG-BALL premiership side to gain CONFIDENCE & earn RESPECT!
