With news of a injury to Frank Lampard during England training, and being sent for a scan that could determine whether or not he is now OUT of Euro 2012. I personally think it does us Chelsea a huge favour if he doesn't go.
Let's be honest, when it comes to England he isn't appreciated anyway is he?.
When Frank Lampard eventually hangs up his boots, people will realise just how incredible his career at Chelsea has been. I would even go as far as to say that it will take a hell of a long time for someone to come close to his goal scoring record from midfield in the Premier League!.
Forget your Ronaldo and Messi's of this world playing their football in Spain and scoring a bucket load of goals because the Premier League is where it's at. It's a much harder league and both of them wouldn't get anywhere near the scoring levels they have reached this season.
This is what I mean about Lampard. He has done it season in, season out in the Premier League and it's only when he has finished playing that the football public will realise just how amazing he has been.
This season however, we have seen him in a new role playing deeper and he has been just as effective. I have written an article about him and the new role recently so make sure you check it out here.
It seems that Lampard would have been deployed in the same position by Roy Hodgson for England this summer but after a long season, a thigh strain has caught up with him and now puts his participation this summer in question.
For me, I would rather Lampard didn't go from a selfish personal point of view because I would rather see him rest up, relax and enjoy time to recharge his batteries.
The reason?, So he can come back to Chelsea raring to go again next season hopefully playing in the same role. By playing deeper, Lampard hasn't got to make his box to box runs all game and he can pick his moments.
If anything the new role could extend is career in the top flight of English football.
So even though we know Lampard would never turn his back on England and would always want to be a part of any England squad for a big tournament like the Euros, I would rather he stayed at home!
