Imagine you are in your first Champions League final and after a losing your head for a moment, you have been sent off and are taking that long lonely walk back to the dressing room and out of the game. What must that have been like for Didier Drogba? What was going through your mind then and has been ever since? It can't have been easy.
For Drogba, the Champions League is the final piece of his Chelsea jigsaw, just like for many of the players, but for him you would imagine it would mean more because of his actions on that night back in Moscow 2008.
Alot has happened at our club since that night, managers have come and gone, players the same but Didier Drogba is part of the old school from back then and you would imagine he has longed for just one more chance to put things right. On Saturday he has that chance.
Some people still criticise Drogba to this day and I have been one of them. We have seen him literally scare the life out of defenders he has come up against when he is on form and up for the game. We have seen him rise to the big occasions time and time again for Chelsea and he has played an instrumental part in what has been the most successful period of our history.
The problem for some people is when he isn't interested or up for the game and I think he would hold his hands up and admit that there has been times in his Chelsea career that it has been like that.
Saying that, I would still take a fully fit, on form and firing Didier Drogba over most into games like Saturday because he can win you games on his own.
At 34 years of age, this is Drogba's last game of his current contract at our club and it could be his last. With offers from around the globe and from Chelsea if recent reports are to be believed, Drogba will have a decision to make in the next few weeks.
Drogba has been keen to forget talk of his contract and talk of what happened in Moscow and said:
"After Moscow we thought we were going to get to the final the next year. But that's the Champions League, it's very difficult to reach the final and that shows how much we deserve to be there today. It's not good to speak about the past because we have a great moment here. I'm going to try to make sure that for my team-mates, this is a great one."(Source)
Drogba just like the others, will be determined to put right the wrongs of 2008. To what happened to him personally there and to win the one trophy that has eluded him and his Chelsea team mates.
Didier Drogba has won it all in England over and over again but like the others from that night, still has a hunger and desire to conquer Europe and finally win the Champions League.
We need Drogba now more than ever once again to deliver yet another big performance to give us a chance of being champions.
With a point to prove to the whole of Europe, Bayern Munich will have to be aware of Drogba. If he's up for it and can deliver the big performance Chelsea need, it will be hard to stop him!
