Roberto Di Matteo has a problem ahead of Saturday night with Ramires being suspended and it's the biggest problem he will face as he looks to pick the team to start in Munich. I have looked at the different options he has available and have come up with the best solution and that is to start Didier Drogba AND Fernando Torres up front together!
Now hear me out on this and I will try to explain why.
We are all aware of the threat that Bayern Munich pose with the front four of Robben, Ribery, Muller and Gomez so it's important to be defensively compact in order to deal with them. Bayern Munich will also line up with Tony Kroos and Bastien Schweinsteiger as two holding players behind them.
The focus will be on Schweinsteiger to act as the more defensive of the two so its important that Chelsea keep him busy - this is where Juan Mata comes in.
As you can see I believe that there is no one that can replace Ramires playing on the right wing, no one who will work as hard as him up and down the pitch and that's what I hope will force Robbie Di Matteo into changing things for this one.
Lampard and Mikel's position will not change but I hope that RDM decides to bring Michael Essien for his experience alongside them. These three players will be deployed to close down the space in front of our back four again just like at the Nou Camp. They won't be interested in getting forward to begin with and will look to get the ball forward into our front three as often and as quickly as possible.
With Drogba and Torres playing up front together it will pose Bayern with a problem. At least one of their full backs will have to hold their position to make sure that they are not left exposed at the back and with Juan Mata playing in behind them, Bastien Schweinsteiger will have to sacrifice his attacking instincts and cover Mata's position.
If Chelsea line up in this formation we will remind as compact as we need to be. As soon as we can break their play down and win the ball back, the onus will be on Mata, Torres and Drogba to create with the ball and force them backwards.
I really hope that Chelsea start the game like this as I personally believe this is how we can win the game.
So as above my starting eleven for Saturday will be:
(4-3-1-2 formation)
Cech, Bosingwa, Luiz, Cahill, Cole, Mikel, Essien, Lampard(c), Mata, Drogba and Torres!

ReplyDeleteI've been thinking all week he should play 4-2-2-2, with Mikel and lampard the holding midfielders, kalou on the right and mata on the left with Drogba and Torres up front where kalou and mata can go back and try stop robben and ribery

ReplyDeletei was thinking that if kalou to play on the right he cud really help man coz guy defends much better than torres and can help out bosingwa he is our weak link and also kalou can prove suport for mata and torres and we wont be too defensive
