I decided to take some time away from the blog yesterday as I wanted to watch the whole game I had recorded because being honest, I was too drunk to remember! What a day and we've done it, we've created history with our fourth FA CUP win in the last six years!
The game itself was one of very little chances looking back. Chelsea started off the better of the two sides as Liverpool struggled to contend with Chelsea's 4-2-3-1 formation. Juan Mata was finding plenty of space as Liverpool found it difficult to get their defensive shape through their midfield sorted out. (I would like to remind you, I had point this out in my match preview!)
After very little being created suddenly Chelsea caught Liverpool on the break. Jay Spearing's miss control in the middle meant the ball came to Mata in behind the Liverpool midfield and he played the ball into my Player of the Year Ramires who yet again, scored another vital goal for Chelsea. A great run beyond the defender and a finish that beat Pepe Reina at his near post. Chelsea were 1-0 up.

Luis Suarez was finding it very difficult to get into the game because he was being marshaled by JT and Ivanovic and because of that, Liverpool couldn't hold the ball up which mean Steven Gerrard found himself deeper in midfield and not being able to get forward to support him.
Even though Chelsea had made a breakthrough from Ramires, neither side had forced the other keeper into making a save in the first half. It was a tight, tense game but Chelsea were well on top.
Second half was a different story after Chelsea scored their second goal through you know who, the man who loves playing at Wembley - Didier Drogba!.
Another midfield mistake by Spearing as he sold himself into a tackle, reading what was about to happen, Frank Lampard stepped away from him with the ball and had ten years of space to move into. Now, you couldn't blame Lampard for having a shot from there despite having an option of passing to Mata on the right or Drogba to his left.

Liverpool looked like they were expecting the same from Lampard, but once again at Wembley, Lampard picked out a slide rule pass to Drogba who brought the ball under control just inside the left side of their box and struck the ball, left footed into the bottom corner with Reina beaten again. Chelsea 2-0 up and cruising.
Then the game changer came on in Andy Carroll. We always knew that Liverpool would have to come at us as they chased the game but Carroll gave them a different option. Up front with Suarez he began to win headers and cause us some problems.
He scored about ten mins after coming on after a sloppy defensive lapse from Jose Bosingwa. The ball was played down the line on the Liverpool left and Chelsea's right hand side and Bosingwa should have just cleared the ball out of play but didn't. He hesitated and allowed Downing to tackle him. As he did the ball came into the box to the feet of Carroll who turned and rifled a left footed shot in the roof of the net from close range. It was the only blemish on our day through sloppy defending!
Liverpool's tails were up and they began to dominate possession. Chelsea sat back in their defensive positions that had served us so well in Barcelona. For the most part we did OK. Cech saved low down from Suarez before a controversial moment. Liverpool got in behind us on the right and Suarez chipped a cross over to the unmarked Carroll to head towards goal from six yards.
Somehow, Petr Cech got a hand to the ball and pushed it up onto the underside of the cross bar and kept it out. The ball bounced just in front of the line and Ivanovic cleared it before Kuyt could force the ball over the line.
Liverpool thought it was in but the Assistant and the Referee never gave it. Looking at the replay, the whole of the ball did not cross the line so they were right in not giving it. Justice for Luis Garcia's goal that never was at Anfield all those years ago!.
Chelsea managed to continue to nullify Liverpool as they continued to push forward and after six minutes of added time the final whistle blew and Chelsea were FA CUP WINNERS once again!. What a feeling and what a game!.
Who would have thought it eh? Down and out, written off, these boys have kept on going, they have never given up and have now won their first trophy as a group together. With Spurs and Newcastle dropping points, we still have a hope of fourth place with the Champions League final to follow.
I cannot speak enough about all of them. What a day!
