I have to say I thought something was up when JT was taken off early in the second half against Benfica. As he was walking off the pitch, I was thinking surely he can't be being rested and yesterday we had confirmation that he has broken two of his ribs.
After the game JT revealed:
"I couldn't breathe and my chest was closing up. I was having a difficult time out there, especially in the first half. Hopefully, I'll be okay.
I don't know how long I'll be out. I will have a scan in the morning and we will see where we go from there. It's just horrible.
When you get one in the ribs, you can't do anything about it, you can't treat it, you just have let it heal, but I can get through games definitely.
I thought it was okay but, later in the second half, it just seemed to be getting worse and I was struggling to breathe to be honest.
It was difficult. I have never felt anything like that before."
Now that was Wednesday night. Yesterday the club released the following statement on the Official Chelsea Website:
Scans confirm that John has two cracked ribs sustained in last week's game in Portugal. We have been able to manage it and will continue to do so.
We will continue to monitor it on a daily basis and will assess him for upcoming games.
So to me that sounds promising. I will go out on a limb here and say that he will not play against Wigan but will against Fulham.
Have you people noticed though that the constant opinion or article that seemed to appear almost every week about JT being passed it and finished seems to have stopped?.
Jaime Redknapp, speaking on the Sky Sports presentation of Benfica v Chelsea in Lisbon even went as far as to talk up JT before the game started which was a turn up for the books when he said:
John Terry is the best centre half England has got!
Of course I am biased, but I totally agree with him. JT is back on his game and has played an important part of the revitalised Chelsea under RDM. We cannot afford to not have him playing in these big games coming up and without him we look very different at the back. We all saw it ourselves the other night when he went off.
Alot of the newspapers and media are reporting that JT will be missing from the first leg against Barcelona but I don't believe it because of the content of the statement released by Chelsea.
The are managing it and will continue to do so because everyone knows, We need him playing!.
