Drogba goal exposed the Barcelona weakness I pointed out!.

Morning again Chelsea fans! Don't worry, it is still true, we beat Barcelona 1-0 last night.

The reason I am writing this post is because I want to show you something. Now, I don't know how many of you people had seen my scouting report of Barcelona and their weaknesses? In that post here, I singled out Gerard Pique as a weak link because he gets caught ball watching and gets sucked towards the ball when he should be concentrating on the person he should be marking.

In the summary at the bottom of my post I pointed out a few things but stated on there that Puyol was also guilty of ball watching and that Chelsea CAN hurt Barcelona with a counter attack!.

I am pleased to report that we did exactly that because of both Puyol and Mascherano being guilty of ball watching and leaving Drogba unmarked!.

Let's look at the goal last night so you can see.

So this is the moment Frank Lampard has won the ball off Messi. Look at Drogba's position, the position of the defenders around him and also the positions of Ramires (bottom right) and Xavi nearest him.

If we focus on Drogba, he has Puyol marking goal side, nearest the Barcelona penalty box, Mascherano nearest Drogba beginning to make a run backwards and Busquets facing Lampard, ready to close him down.

Now look!

Lampard has spotted Ramires' run and is about to play the ball over to him making a run bottom right corner and he has stolen a march on Xavi, Busquets has hardly moved at all, Adriano the left back is square of Busquets furthest left on the halfway line and look at Drogba.

Drogba has made a run right and BOTH Mascherano AND Puyol have followed him to cut off the ball to him which is fair enough.

Now look what happens..

The pass from Lampard was perfect and Ramires has chested the ball down into his path.Xavi hasn't got the legs on Ramires and is doing his best to get back to him but seeing this, BOTH Puyol AND Mascherano have decided to leave Drogba and come across to close down Ramires! Look at the space Drogba now has on the back post. Adriano sees it and is now busting a gut to get back to Drogba!.

A full 20 yards further up the pitch and Puyol and Mascherano still haven't split up and are both ball watching! Drogba sees it and is now calling for the cross..

When the cross comes in it bypasses both Puyol and Mascherano and finds Drogba unmarked at the back post to slot the ball home for the only goal of the game!.

This lot are there for the taking again in the Nou Camp if they carry on defending like that. It will be interesting to see what they are like against Madrid this weekend.
