With news of Newcastle losing away at Wigan yesterday, Chelsea have a massive chance to take three points and close the gap to a point with a victory at the Bridge this afternoon. However, with a defensive crisis today it will not be easy.
QPR come to the Bridge looking to three points as they look to establish their Premier League status. They have mustered up some impressive wins at home in recent weeks but their away form isn't good at all. It's a local derby with the addition of the JT/Ferdinand situation still in the background and QPR will try and make things as difficult as possible.
So what of Chelsea this afternoon? We do have a crisis at centre back next to JT but I do expect Mikel to slot in and play there. Gary Cahill and David Luiz are both out injured and Branislav Ivanovic remains suspended for the last of his three games. The good thing for Chelsea is that we have plenty of midfield cover if Mikel is moved next to JT.
We all are wondering who will start the game today after Chelsea's impressive performance in midweek at Barcelona. Will Roberto Di Matteo make a few or many changes with Newcastle to play in midweek? Or will he continue to play the strongest team available as we continue our push for fourth place?.
I personally think he will go with a strong team today as the players had two days off after Barcelona and should be ready to go again today.
I predict that Chelsea's starting eleven will be:
Cech, Bosingwa, Mikel, Terry(c), Cole, Essien, Lampard, Ramires, Mata, Kalou and Torres.
Chelsea have to play well in what looks like being difficult conditions. We cannot afford to have any kind of hangover from Tuesday as we have to look forward now and refocus our efforts on two big games.
Let's hope we can put in the performance, get the result and take advantage of Newcastle's slip up and keep pressure up on Spurs.
Come on Chelsea!
