John Terry surprised every single one of us the other night when we heard he had travelled first of all to Birmingham for our FA Cup replay the other night, but to then be named on the bench was even more of a surprise.
Terry has made a remarkable recovery from an operation on his knee. He spoke about his return to Chelsea TV after the game and said:
"I'm delighted because initially they were saying four to six weeks but naturally they're a little bit cautious, After the operation I was jogging two days later, but it's down to getting over it mentally as well, the fact you've had an operation. Once you're clear of that then you're able to push on.(Source)
The way it's been here, I just wanted to push myself and try to get back involved. I've been working hard in the gym doing triple sessions and going back to Cobham in the evenings on my own which has been tough, but the target was always to be back for the Stoke game so this is a massive boost for me that I can get some more days of training under my belt.
There is no pain at all and he [the surgeon] said for how long I've been playing, my knee looks in great condition which is an added bonus."
It's massive to have JT if you ask me. I know I will get slated by some Chelsea fans on here who think that Terry is over the hill and one of those names that some people think we need to farm out in the summer. For me I'm not having that at all, JT is still one of the best centre halves in the country and as a leader on the pitch, there is no one better.
Chelsea miss JT when he isn't playing. When he isn't there, you are looking for someone to give people a rollicking on the pitch if they aren't performing, to give people a gee-up and you don't really see it.
Chelsea miss his organisation at the back defending set pieces and generally during the game. We've seen the likes of Cahill do it because I think it comes natural to him but apart from that, you don't see many more people doing it.
I have said previously that Chelsea need their strongest team playing now week in, week out if we are to get on a decent run and climb back up into the top four and JT is one of those players.
It's great to have him back and is a massive boost to Robbie Di Matteo as he prepares for the run in.
