I think if there is one thing that every single one of us would want to hear this week it would have been just what was said by Roman Abramovich to the Chelsea players shortly after sacking AVB.
We can only imagine what was said. The press asked RDM after the Birmingham game and he remained silent and explained that "things said in house, should remain in house" which is fair enough.
However, speaking to the clubs Official Website, Juan Mata has revealed the simple message from Abramovich to the players. He said:
'He said we have the opportunity to change this run of defeats and [on Tuesday] we did it so we have to keep going and try to get better.
Plain and simple isn't it, but if reports are to be believed, it wasn't as nice as that.
Mata also spoke of Robbie Di Matteo and has re-iterated that the players still believe that they have alot to play for as he said:
The most important thing now is to think of Roberto Di Matteo, who is our coach, and to finish well in these two months. If you think about it, Roberto Di Matteo and the Chelsea players have a massive opportunity to turn our season round. From being out of the top four and looking like a said with obvious problems and dare I say it, not all playing for the manager, we showed within 90 minutes at Birmingham a marked improvement on the pitch and on the sidelines.
We all knew Robbie before. He is a very good guy as well, he knows Chelsea from the inside and used to play here. We are all with him because it's what we have to do.
We will try to win the FA Cup, it's a special competition with the opportunity to play at Wembley, which is very nice, and we will try to win. We will try to beat Napoli, it is possible, we can win 2-0, and we will give 100 per cent until the end of the season to achieve our objectives.
We have to prove ourselves every game, for us, for the other players. We are playing in a top club and always we try to do our best in every game.
There is a lot of feeling in the dressing room, no matter what the game or the manager. We are all focused on the same objectives, to do the best for the club and every one of the players does."
We are now through to the Quarter Finals of the FA Cup with a plum home tie against Leicester and no disrespect to them, but we should make it through to the Semi Finals which I believe are at Wembley again?.
We have a chance to put pressure now on Arsenal for fourth place in the Premier League with important games coming up starting with Stoke at home on Saturday.
Finally, we have a chance to progress into the next round of the Champions League when we take on Napoli at the Bridge next week trying to overturn the 3-1 defeat we suffered in Naples the other week which, by looking at their defending should be possible if we play well.
That's football though isn't it, one minute you are struggling and out of form and being criticised left right and centre, then after winning a couple of games confidence returns and you have it all to play for again.
It also important to put the thoughts of next season to one side and who will come into the club as our manager. (For me Mourinho is my preferred choice followed by David Moyes. NOT Benitez!)
Just remember, if ever these players needed a kick up the arse and reminded of what IS still to play for, it seems as though Roman Abramovich has delivered his message to the players and has entrusted Roberto Di Matteo and the players to deliver this season.
Let's hope they do!
