I read a rumour on this the other day and saw David Luiz's comments and wasn't surprised to be honest. The news that Pep Guardiola is eyeing up a summer move for our Brazilian is something you could see coming really.
There is an argument that Luiz is one of our most creative players in the side. His distribution of the football is immense and he always looks to create something when he gets forward. Look at a couple of goals he has scored this season from similar positions against Leverkusen and last week against Bolton. Both started by coming out of defence with the ball.
The problem Chelsea have is that while we continue to strive for Champions League glory and sustained success in both our domestic and European leagues, the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United already have that and the reputation of the biggest and most successful clubs in Europe.
In recent seasons we have all watched in total admiration the team Barcelona have now. The flair they have in their side, the quality they have and in Lionel Messi, they have arguably one of the best players that has ever played the game.
So when you hear that Barcelona are rumoured to be interested in signing for you, I would imagine it would be like a dream for you, especially someone like David Luiz who has seen some of Brazil's biggest names play for the them.
When asked about the latest rumour that Guardiola will make a move for him this summer, Luiz responded by saying:
"I would be lying if I said I know nothing. I am aware, not least because for months there have been constant rumours about Barca's interest.(Source)
What I can confirm is that I have not negotiated anything and no-one has submitted a concrete offer. I am 100 per cent a Chelsea player.
Barca are a great team that play fantastic football. Every player would love to play for Barcelona, but I am with Chelsea and I have an obligation to my club."
Worrying comments really as he more or less admits that although he is committed to Chelsea for now, if the Catalan giants come knocking, he would love to open the door and join them.
Luiz has his critics for the defensive side of his game and while there has been one or two instances of a lack of composure or mistake, he IS improving this side of his game and if you look at him now compared to a year ago it's plain to see.
I can't help but think that Chelsea needs Luiz to remain at our club if we are to build for the future. Everyone always speaks of the strong Chelsea core that we have had that runs through the spine of our side, Luiz could become part of the new core, someone the manager builds the team around.
Then again, Luiz was not a signing made by AVB and may not feature in his future plans. This is always the worry for players and supporters when a new manager comes in.
The problem we have and that everyone has as per the situation with Cesc Fabregas at Arsenal, once they come calling and especially with the team they have now, very rarely do you see a player turn them down.
I really hope Luiz stays at Chelsea for the length of his contract and is keen to be part of the new revolution at Chelsea, becomes successful here and then moves on to Barcelona.
Let's hope he can resist!.
