One thing I have noticed in recent weeks is the lack of real chances we are creating for ourselves. The thing is, because of this happening, the likes of Danny Sturridge (as he demonstrated yesterday) have taken a selfish approach to his game and is shooting whenever he gets the ball in or around the box rather then lift his head up and look for a killer pass or to create a chance for someone else.
AVB at the beginning of the season when asked about Torres and scoring goals said that rather than single out individuals in the side, he said:
"We faced this question last year at Porto with a striker of the quality of Falcao. He was a striker who didn't find the back of the net in pre-season and was frustrated. We didn't tune the team to provide to him. We tuned the team as a whole. Once we did that, he scored 30 goals in a season, 60 in two seasons. It's about fine-tuning the team, not the player."
The thing thing is, here we are over halfway through the season and we don't look anywhere near like what he said we would be. Torres has suffered big time as a result. People will moan at me for saying it but I AM a big fan of Torres and believe we will get the best out of him ONLY by playing to his strengths.
Can someone tell me how many balls has Torres had in recent weeks that have put him clean through on goal with just the keeper to beat? In fact, not just Torres how about anyone? In the last three games can someone confirm to me a chance we have created for anyone so they are through on goal?
Forgetting Torres, he also spoke of what he would bring to the squad as a whole and said:
"We can find things in players' talent that they thought they didn't have. We think there's something extra we can get out of them, so that is why we focus on ambition and motivation. That is the philosophy we have from top to bottom in all our departments. It is a question of creating empathy, motivation and raising ambitions in everybody."
I am a supporter of AVB and really want him to succeed here but it just seems like the last couple of weeks we haven't performed and have almost come to a standstill.
It's staggering really to think about it but it's almost like we reach the final third, the opposition defence step up to close us down and we don't know what to do, so as a result we end up passing the ball backwards or side to side AGAIN.
I stand by what I have said about Chelsea this season and it follows on from last season, we do not play our football at a high tempo and it makes it easier for sides to play against us. We have the players to move the ball quickly, we have pace and flair in our attack but we simply do not use it!
How can you win any game if you are unable to create chances and clear cut chances at that?.

i'm really very happy to see that there's one person out there with the same mind and vision as mine.this u av posted was my exact respond to torres' critics.i hope avb and others find answers to wat u av posted, urgently.just hope its nt too late
ReplyDeleteavb is quite stubborn mynd u
ReplyDeletehe (avb)keeps on saying the team is playing well, praising the squad but without wins why????i guess he is the only one who is happy with the way our team is playing.Poor display each and evry 90 minutes
ReplyDeletethere was no single chance created yesterday and even recently. Studge has become so stingy. Twistin and turnin for chance when some1 is already in position. In all, AVB is guilty. If AVB switch to 4-diamond-2(4-1-2-1-2), with Mata at the peak, I believe more chances can be created. Our game is so predictable by any team will play against. They all defend thesame way against us and our strickers will not see the ball at all. Pls AVB, change or face anoda hammerin at home on sunday.
