DROGBA: A FINAL SWANSONG THAT SAVES OUR SEASON?

Listen, regular readers will know when it comes to Didier Drogba, his form is up and down and as a result my opinion of him has changed from a few seasons ago. Back then, Drogba was THE number one at our club, played well on a consistent basis and became the scourge of defences all over Europe. Nowadays I think it's fair to say that we see the same Drogba in fits and starts and never week in, week out which hasn't been good enough.

This season Drogba against Valencia, was back to his unplayable self and was fantastic so much so I wrote an article the day after asking the question "Why doesn't he do it every week?" and I still stand by that.

There has been plenty of speculation about Drogba's future and the fact he is still with us is a HUGE bonus right now. Don't miss understand me here, I haven't changed my opinion that Drogba needs to play better every week, but the fact that the Chelsea team REFUSE to play to Fernando Torres' strengths it makes the situation clear now.

I am 100% behind Fernando Torres but he isn't cutting it because of THE SERVICE he isn't getting. He is being asked to play a different game and it doesn't suit him here. Maybe, switching to 4-4-2 somehow and trying to make Drogba & Torres work together could be the solution we are all looking for but somehow I don't see it.

So, back from his disappointment in the African Nations Cup (shocking penalty in normal time by the way!) he couldn't have timed a return to Chelsea any better.

The club and team is in disarray, the manager and players have had a training ground bust up, we're out of the top four, Abramovich is back on the scene and we are literally at our lowest point in the season.

What a time it is for Didier Drogba's swansong in a Chelsea shirt, to be the voice in the dressing room we know he is, to be the legend he has become here because of the player for Chelsea we know he can be and for his leadership on the pitch.

The Chelsea family need Didier Drogba more than ever now but I emphasise again, the unplayable Drogba of old to pick us up and drag us back into the top four.

We need our big players now, we need big performances every week and we need our leaders on the pitch to get the team to pull together.

We need Didier Drogba!
