Tonight Chelsea travel to the Liberty Stadium to take on the impressive Swansea side under Brendan Rogers. We all saw how well they played when they beat Arsenal the other week and once again for Chelsea, this is no easy game.
Imagine a Chelsea side without three of the four players that have been part of the core of our side for the last five or six years. Tonight there is no Terry, Lampard or Drogba and to think of a Chelsea side with these players missing would have been a something we would worry about if we are honest just like at times last season. (In addition to those players, Ramires is also out for a month which is a blow).
However, there is a new breed at Chelsea these days and although we have these players missing, it's chance for some of the others to make an impact.
So I wonder who should start the game for Chelsea tonight? Will AVB stick with Malouda in the middle? Will Torres continue up top and will Cahill make his debut for the club?
In my opinion, Chelsea need to be as strong as possible tonight so my formation and starting eleven would be as follows:
4-2-3-1
Cech, Ivanovic, Luiz, Cahill, Cole (C), Romeu, Essien, Meireles, Mata, Torres, Sturridge.
I would stick Essien next to Romeu to patrol the midfield and push Meireles up in the middle of three behind Torres with Sturridge and Mata out wide.
Swansea have their three man midfield with just one holding, so to counter that, we should push three men forward to make them change their formation and nullify their passing game. Besides that, the three players pushing forward to support Torres would keep their back four busy, force them backwards and help Chelsea dominate the game.
Playing this way will also benefit someone like Lucas Piazon would could come on from the bench as one of the three players in behind the striker.
What do you think?
