I think there is one question we are all asking at the moment and that's the situation with the Gary Cahill transfer from Bolton.
We know the fee was agreed last week and the player and his representatives were discussing personal terms with Chelsea but then we heard from AVB that both sides were "a million miles apart" when it came to finalising a deal for the young international centre back.
We have literally heard nothing since and he played at the weekend and is playing for Bolton again tonight and I can't help but wonder, what the hold up is?
I was reading this article in one of the national newspapers and it "claimed" that Chelsea had offered Cahill a weekly wage of around £50,000 to sign for the club but he was looking for double that £100,000 and maybe thinks that once his contract expires in the summer, he would be able to negotiate that with someone as they wouldn't have to pay a fee for him.
£100,000 a week for Gary Cahill! Are you joking me! There are better, world class defenders in the Premier League playing for other sides that are on less than that at the moment.
The problem Chelsea have is that the longer this is dragged out, someone else could come in with the same offer and up his wages and we could lose out on the deal. Or, Cahill could stall on this right till the last minute of the window, negotiate with someone else to move at the end of the season for better money.
I am certain that no one will want to pay him £100,000 a week at the moment as he is unproven at a top club even though he is a full England international, but with no fee involved they could offer more than we reportedly have so far.
Chelsea could also negotiate a deal for him when his contract expires at the end of the season and give him alot more than £50,000 per week without the fee but I don't see what the point in that would be as it's obvious they want him now to replace Alex and that's why we have offered and had £7m accepted by Bolton.
I for one hope this deal gets sorted out sooner rather than later but, only at the right price and terms for Chelsea. If Chelsea cave in and pay the £100,00 per week he is apparently demanding then I can understand them taking their time.
Is it a question of Cahill being greedy and being mis-advised by his people, or does he have every right to look for £100,00 per week?
We'll have to wait and see!
