With Luka Modric and Juan Mata taking most of the attention ahead of this one tomorrow night it's important that we do not forget the other midfield battle that will take place around them. Last week against Sunderland, Sandro and Scott Parker patrolled Spurs' midfield while Meireles, Frank Lampard and Oriol Romeu patrolled Chelsea's.
We know that Harry Redknapp favours the 4-4-2 formation using his two wingers and one player playing just off of the main striker. For Chelsea, we favour a 4-3-3 formation and it could all come down to who wins the battle in the middle tomorrow.
Looking at Scott Parker you always know what you are going to get. Work-rate, desire, energy, tough tackling and putting himself about all over the place. With Sandro next to him (if he plays) he is more the passer of the two, will look to get on the ball and give it early wide or to Van Der Vaart. If Bale is passed fit then it will be interesting to see if Spurs stick Modric out wide right tomorrow which means Sandro will continue.
Chelsea are different and will be different tomorrow as the important Ramires will make his return to the fold after missing Wigan. With Oriol Romeu now ahead of Mikel in our famous holding role, he brings some class to the side. Two footed, an eye for a pass and a tackle, Romeu provides us with something quicker in that position, especially moving the ball forward.
Like I said Ramires is back tomorrow and he has been nothing but immense since he found his feet in the Premier League. His physique is slight but he more than holds his own. He has simply got better and better in a Chelsea shirt and has firmly cemented his place in the starting eleven whenever he is available. His endless energy, his breaks from midfield and his all round influence on games really has become a feature of our play.
It's a toss up between Frank Lampard and Raul Meireles for me tomorrow and although I would never have dreamed of saying this a few weeks ago, I would go with Meireles purely and simply for his range of passing. He also likes to get stuck in, but his link up play is slightly better than Lampard in my view.
We all know that Lampard gets forward and scores goals, has and will be a legend for this club, but he never cut it for me on Saturday and Chelsea look better balanced at the moment with Meireles there.
Can Chelsea's three man midfield out fight and out play Spurs' two man midfield tomorrow?
I guess we will have to just wait and see!
