I think if I was John Obi Mikel I would be worried. The fact that Oriol Romeu has come to the club, worked hard and has impressed so much to cement a regular start in the Chelsea side week in, week out - it's no wonder really.
Chelsea fans have a divided opinion of Mikel. For me the defensive instincts and qualities he has shouldn't be forgotten. His positional play and awareness of the game is one of his strengths and he had played an important role in the success we have had since he has been here.
The problem he has is his use of the ball. Forever under scrutiny for slowing our play down and passing the ball sideways or backwards more than forwards, Mikel has put under pressure and now faces a battle to win his place back.
It was very noticeable that Mikel was used as a second half substitute, with the game already won, to ensure that we remained solid and to not concede anything from Valencia. It's a far cry from being the main man in the holding role.
I don't think you will find a single Chelsea fan that believes right now that he has a right to be selected ahead of Romeu. Romeu for me has it all. His awareness, positional sense, defensive abilities and use of the ball is far better at the moment and he has slotted into our side as if he has been here for years. At 20 years of age, it's remarkable really.
AVB is gradually evolving this Chelsea side as the likes of Alex, Anelka, Drogba and others are the subject of speculation of leaving the club. Could Mikel also be one of them?
