In a couple of hours from now Chelsea take on Liverpool at Stamford Bridge in a game we simply cannot afford to lose or even drop points!. With City, United and the Arsenal all winning yesterday, Spurs playing tomorrow and with a game in hand afterwards, Chelsea need to pick up an all important three points to kick start a massive seven games coming up.
However, we've had to cope with the international break, a dip in form and questions being asked about our formation, our defence and our tactics.
Liverpool will come here to win the game after dropping points at home against Swansea in their last game and Kenny Dalglsh will want to extend his record unbeaten against Chelsea as Liverpool manager.
It's all set for another classic encounter between the two sides and I have to admit, it's a tough one to call this afternoon. It's easy to sit and write Liverpool off these days. One minute they are fantastic and can beat anyone on their day, then they drop points at home to Swansea!
Chelsea are the same, when we are on form we take teams apart like we did at Bolton but then we get found out defensively against Arsenal and conceed five goals at home!.
This game today could be wide open again with plenty of goals and plenty of chances being created and it really wouldn't surprise me if that was the case. Then again, it could be a tight close game being focused on the midfield battle.
Looking at Liverpool you have an idea of how they will line up and you would say in a 4-5-1 formation. Suarez has been a fantastic signing and I think he will start today, Andy Carroll will be on the bench. I can see Liverpool playing with Downing left, Kuyt on the right and a midfield three of Adam, Henderson and Lucas.
It's how they line up at the back that will be key in this one. Johnson should start right, Enrique left with Agger next to Skrtel but I think if Carragher is fit, then Agger will make way.
Liverpool will look to keep it tight and compact and rely on Suarez to nick a goal. Liverpool cannot be underestimated this afternoon. It's all well and good to write them off but with our high defensive line, they could easily expose us today. Chelsea need to be disciplined defensively because if we aren't they can make us pay!
As far as we are concerned today, again it's interesting to see how we line up. For me there are three key positions up for debate before the final decision is made on the starting eleven.
Our defence has been a problem but even though we rode our luck at times, we kept a clean sheet at Blackburn with Ivanovic at right back and Alex next to JT. I think we need to make a decision on whether or not Alex starts again or if David Luiz comes in. I would pick Luiz for the way he reads the game and his pace. For me, Ivanovic starts at right back keeping Bosingwa on the bench.
That's two of the three positions covered, the final position is the holding midfield role. The reason I am saying this is because Lampard and Ramires should start without question. So it's a toss up between Mikel, Romeu and Meireles as to how starts the game in that deep lying holding role.
I have changed my mind on this in a couple of days since I asked you all who should play there. Normally I would go for Mikel as I thought he is the better of the three defensively. The other day I stated that I would start Meireles there purely and simply because of his use of the ball and passing ability. Today I am thinking, why not combine the two and play Romeu from the start?.
Romeu offers a combination of Meireles and Mikel for me and he would be perfect to start this in midfield behind Lampard and Ramires. Being honest, I can't see AVB going with him starting but I would love to see it. If it's not Romeu I would like to see Meireles but I think it WILL BE Mikel.
Our front three will be Mata, Torres and Sturridge. Questions have been asked whether or not Didier Drogba should start the game in the place of Torres and I understand that but, Torres should and will get the nod because of his movement up there and the chances he creates which is more than Drogba will do. Right or wrong, Torres will start and I really believe he could have a big big day today!.
Chelsea have it all when it comes to our attacking play and our attacking style. We have pace, movement and attacking flair combined with bundles of energy. We don't have a problem from midfield to our attack. It's our defence that is the problem.
What I would like to see today is Chelsea play the back four I selected (Ivanovic, Luiz, Terry and Cole) and ask our full backs to only go forward when it's safe to do so. We can leave the attacking to our front three. Lampard and Ramires.
We need to do away with this high defensive line, and organise ourselves not to be caught out at the back and exposed. If Mikel plays sitting in front, and we keep our shape and discipline then I cannot see Liverpool breaking us down. However, if our full backs decide to push on time and time again and we lose the ball, we will create problems for ourselves.
I cannot emphasise how much a performance we need from EVERY single player on that pitch in a Chelsea shirt this afternoon. Big players often rise to a big occasion and for me this is THE ONE game we need to win now more than ever.
The focus will be Torres and Suarez this afternoon and I hope that Torres shows everyone exactly what he is about this season being somewhere near his best. However, it could be someone such as Sturridge, Lampard or Juan Mata that prove to be the star of the show.
I really don't care who it is as long as we win! Come on Chelsea! UTC, CAREFREE and KTBFFH!
Chelsea to win by 2 goals and a clean sheet would be nice!
