Now the reason I am asking this question is to do with balance in our side. As we all know until the Blackburn game the other week, we hadn't keep a clean sheet in the league since the opening day of the season against Stoke.
It looks like AVB has addressed the situation by taking Jose Bosingwa out of the side and replacing him with Alex and moving Ivanovic to right back. Whether he continues like this for Liverpool on Sunday is another thing and we will have to wait and see.
However, I still think we stumbled across the perfect formation for us in the defeat to United in that fantastic second half performance but, until now we haven't adopted the same formation since.
I believe the 4-2-3-1 formation we played in that second half would solve all of our defensive problems and still pose our opposition with problems against our forward line.
This is where the debate about Mata comes into play. In that second half, he played in behind Fernando Torres through the middle, with Sturridge right hand side and Anelka on the left.
Think of Mata's goals and also the ones has he created so far this season, the majority have been from coming inside into central positions. So I just wonder if we were to use this formation from now on and see how it goes, if he should play just in behind Torres?.
It means that Chelsea play two "holding" midfielders, but of course one will still have a licence to get involved in the play so it would be a toss up between, Mikel, Romeu, Meireles, Ramires and Lampard.
That's the thing though about the debate, if you bring Mata inside, who will have to drop out of the side? You couldn't drop Ramires or Lampard because they are both playing well at the moment, but neither of them are real defensive minded midfielders. Then again, would playing Ivanovic at right back tighten things up at the back that we wouldn't need a holding midfielder?
There are plenty of questions to be answered, but the main point here I am trying to make and to ask of ALL you Chelsea supporters reading this is:

Is Juan Mata wasted out wide and should he play through the middle? Or should we stick with him wide doing what he has been doing so far this season?

I thing we need that formation we used against man utd in d second half of play. AVB should drop ramires bcos only one offensive mid fielder is enough. Meireles, mikel and lampard are enough for d midfield.., long live d blues
ReplyDeletei think AVB should totaly take of lampard out of t mildfield and play mata in thank position so that d attackers can perform well....BLUES TILL I DIE
