AVB on Genk: "We created enough opportunities but not happening for us"

AVB is featured on the Official Chelsea website speaking after the disappointing result at Genk last night. I have had my say on the performance here and AVB has given his insight.

He said:

'It's not a bad result away from home but we expected to win. I wouldn't say we lost control. We were quite organised in the first half and in the second half I think we shouldn't confuse losing control of the game with emotions coming from the stadium.

We created enough opportunities again to try to win the game but it's not happening for us in terms of efficiency. We got a penalty, hit the post and got in front of the goalkeeper a couple of times, so [it is] efficiency at the moment.

It's things we need to focus on because it can put us clear in terms of the result and we can move clear for the second half with 2-0. When you don't the game is always open and there for you to be threatened. Genk made the most of a couple of opportunities they had, one went in and it finished 1-1.

When you get a bad run of results you have to get a win straight away to take you out of that run. You play difficult games, and at the moment we are chasing hard this win, but we haven't found it today.

Our reflection must be on what we did in the game, was it enough to win? I think it was but we couldn't find the back of the net and that made the difference. It's back to back games without a win but it is a draw away from home in the Champions League. We still lead the group, now we go to Leverkusen and expect to do something there."

I think once again and highlighted last night is the fact that we all have concerns defensively with yet another goal conceded because of players being caught out of position. I understand he doesn't want to change his style of football and wants to focus on the amount of chances we created and didn't take but he HAS to realise that because of that and our defensive set up we were punished again.

AVB speaks of working on things, putting defensive errors right but last night for their goal, there was still the same problem. Bosingwa out, Ivanovic in at right back!
