Danny Sturridge fully deserves the chance he has been given this season so far under AVB. He has earned it by working hard when he was away at Bolton and by working hard ever since he came back to the club.
I wrote the other day how I couldn't understand how Fabio Capello overlooked him for the last England squad so much so even Ashley Cole has come out this week and said:
'He should have been in the last England squad and, if he keeps doing what he is doing, he will be in the squad for Euro 2012, no problem at all.'The thing is, and it's a credit to Danny Sturridge, he remains grounded about everything, keeps a level head and realises there is a job to do here at Chelsea first.
When asked about his start to this season and to a possible future call up for England, Sturridge said:
"If England comes and I play for England then great, But I am not really worried about playing for England - it is not something I am really stressing about.(Source)
My main focus is to play for Chelsea every week and if I can do that then I am happy. It has been a long time I have been playing at Chelsea now and I have not been playing regularly so for me the most important thing is to be playing regularly.
I could play a lot better than I am and I am getting used to the position out wide. I enjoy playing there."
The more I hear from Sturridge, the more I like him. He came here and we all had this opinion of him being some jumped up, arrogant young man but ever since he signed for he club he has shown he is the complete opposite.
What I like about him is his desire to do well, to improve but at the same time keeping his feet on the ground. Let's be honest here especially after the success he had at Bolton playing through the middle, when AVB approached him with the idea of playing out wide right and explained what he felt Sturridge could offer him in that role, he could have moaned, caused a fuss and re-iterated that he wants to play where he showed all of us what he could do.
He never did, he opened his mind up to what AVB was thinking, embraced it, got his head round it and has never looked back.
There is no question that when the time is right Danny Sturridge WILL BE a top, top striker but for now he is doing a pretty good job out wide right cutting inside.
He says he knows he can play better and that means only good things for Chelsea and one day for England!
