In light of all the recent speculation surrounding the futures of Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou and Jose Bosingwa, AVB has come out and made HIS intentions clear, even if they do not sign new contracts before January, he has no intention of selling them this season and would rather let their contracts run out than lose them from his plans for the season.
In the current football market you would imagine it's somewhat of a surprise that he would let that happen don't you think as we all know that these players would be free to speak to and negotiate a deal with another club from January onwards.
When asked about the situation he said:
"We won't need to sell these players. Apart from Anelka, we have offered them contracts and talks are on-going, Even if we get to January with no agreements, their loyalty will not be questioned. We'll try to reach an agreement but the important thing is for the team to defend its interests on the pitch."(Source)
So I am wondering how you the Chelsea and football fan reading this feel about the possibility of losing four players for nothing at the end of the season?
From AVB's standpoint, and I can understand it, he has evaluated our squad from the moment he arrived and started pre season, has prepared everything and is happy with what he has to last us the duration in all competitions until the season finishes in May. He knows that if he doesn't want to sell these players, he doesn't have to. Why would he?
From the club's standpoint, if these players leave at the end of the season then you would imagine they would be saving a hell of a lot of money by not forking out for their massive contracts and with the new financial ruling coming into place, will benefit the club.
From the players standpoint, I can only imagine they would be happy because they still remain a part of what will hopefully be a successful season with the option to negotiate a big pay day elsewhere to look forward to come 1st July 2012.
From our standpoint being supporters, all we want to see week in, week out is players giving their all for our club and for the shirt. AVB believes that if it does happen that all four leave the club (I have to add, I think Bosingwa will stay) their commitment to the Chelsea cause and to his plans wouldn't change even if they negotiate a move away.
It's a difficult situation isn't it. So, with all this in mind I am asking you all the question this morning:
Would you sell up in January and try and get some money back with a chance to bring new players in, or would you allow their contracts to run down and leave for nothing?
