As I posted yesterday, Danny Sturridge is welcomed back into the fold for selection tomorrow at Sunderland and I personally hope he plays up top with Torres and Mata.
Sturridge is featured in The Mirror and has been speaking about our chances this season and firmly believes Chelsea have the firepower up front to regain the title. He said:
“I scored a few goals in pre-season, when the manager gave me a lot of opportunities to show what I can do, and now my ban is over I’m raring to go.He is spot on isn't he. Just look at the options we have now up front at the club. Sturridge adds to that after going out on loan last season and proving to everyone exactly what he can do. He WAS our best player in pre season and we have missed him in our opening three games.
There is no shortage of competition for places up front at Chelsea, but that’s fine by me. I’ve got Drogba, Anelka, Torres and Lukaku for company, and I would much rather play with those guys than against them.
When the last manager went out and spent £50 million on Fernando Torres, I didn’t think to myself, ‘Oh no, I’ll never get in the first team now’ - in fact it was the opposite. Barcelona already had Xavi, Iniesta and Messi, but that didn’t stop them going out and adding Cesc Fabregas to their squad. Even the greatest club side on earth needs competition for places.
Manchester United and Manchester City have set a formidable pace this season, but don’t be in any doubt that Chelsea have the firepower to compete with them.
I can guarantee that Fernando will score goals if we give him the right service, Didier Drogba is a proven class act at the highest level and I would like to think I can get among the goals for Chelsea.
This is a big season for me - I proved I could do it for Bolton, and given the chance I would love to show I can do it for Chelsea as well.
We’re fighting to get our title back and we’re not going to let the two Manchester clubs have it all their own way.”
If Sturridge gets the nod tomorrow, plays well, scores and creates goals it will be very difficult for someone else to get their place back in the side. That's what we are all hoping for and seeing this new, confident player we have now, I am 100% certain that's exactly what's going to happen in the next few weeks!
Roll on tomorrow!
