Sir Alex Ferguson knows his football and although it pains us to say it, he is and will go down in history as one of the greatest managers in the modern game. He has been asked about this season and the teams he believes will challenge United to take their title away from them and has once again spoken of Chelsea.
He said:
Let's be honest, we aren't anywhere near our most fluid at the moment compared to United and City but we are still picking up points. Our new signings will bolster our squad and some key players have been added in certain positions.
Fergie is right, people harp on about the ages of our players, but experience is key throughout the season and if we can get the squad to click the way that AVB wants us to, then I see no reason why we cannot challenge United once more.
It's important to remember, it's a marathon not a sprint and as long as we keep picking up points, then it will stand us in good stead.
United away in a couple of weeks will be the first game to gauge exactly where we are at the moment. Let's hope for a good win this weekend, a good start against Leverkusen in the Champions League and then a good performance and result at Old Trafford.

"They have tremendous experience with the likes of Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, Petr Cech, John Terry, Alex, Nicolas Anelka, Fernando Torres – there aren't any young kids in that team. But they don't have 36- or 37-year-olds like Ryan Giggs. Lampard and Drogba are 33, Anelka is 32 – not dissimilar to [Michael] Carrick and Rio Ferdinand, and we wouldn't be saying they are dead and buried, would we? So why should they be? They'll still be a big threat and we expect them to challenge."(Source)
