I had a rant a week or so ago at some Chelsea fans with all their negativity about our performances in pre-season. People were moaning about a lack of signings and the way we were playing so I posted an article called "Enough is enough".
In that post, my message was clear, we are in pre season after only being back in training for a couple of weeks and also getting used to the climate in the Far East. I stated, as AVB had done also, that it was primarily about getting players fit for the new season and looking for us to get better and fitter in each performance.
Chelsea won the Asia Trophy after beating Aston Villa in the final 2-0 by doing exactly that!.
Our performances have got better in every game so far and the players are looking really sharp and not far from being as fit as possible for our first game against Stoke in just under two weeks time. The true test will be next weekend as we play Rangers in a friendly, bearing in mind their season has already started. It will be interesting to see just how being out on tour for 15 days will have prepared the players ahead of this week being back at Cobham.
Of course another good thing about the Villa game was Fernando Torres' goal and confidence that came instantly with it. His body language was good (as it has been to be fair all pre season) and he was playing with a smile on his face. Make no mistake that goal could be massive for Torres and for Chelsea this season.
So overall our 15 day tour has worked out well, we have scored goals and not conceded any, players have had plenty of game time and AVB will now know exactly who IS a part of his plans and who isn't this season.
With just Rangers left to play, it will be interesting to see what happens with our squad (if anything) this week and to see how we can cope with the game against them.
Getting back to the point of this post, it's been so far so good for Chelsea and AVB.
