Now I want to state on record for the time being that this is just a rumour that has been brought to my attention and is being discussed on various forums at the moment.
Word of mouth that seems to be intensifying this week is that Spurs ARE willing to budge on their stance for Luka Modric but it would indicate that Didier Drogba is part of the deal and a deal could be agreed by the end of the week!.
Now we know we have been after Modric for quite some time. We all know Spurs' stance on the deal and have said not for sale at any price but if Drogba is now part of the deal could that all change?
I have to say, Drogba being benched for the Stoke game surprised me purely and simply because of his strength and aerial presence on the pitch. Watching the Sky coverage back, Ray Wilkins even mentioned at the time that he was really surprised that he hadn't started the game.
I just wonder if the selection of Torres ahead of Drogba is a clear indication of AVB's thinking?. It seems that Nico Anelka wants out now to play first team football and I just wonder if Drogba thinking of his age and a chance to play week in, week out at Spurs to finish his career would be more than happy to take the opportunity.
We have to think about the fact that we have signed Lukaku BUT if both Anelka and Drogba leave the club, where would that leave Chelsea for cover especially if we are to challenge for all four competitions?
Like I say, this is only a report that has appeared around forums this week so it could be a complete load of nonsense but we have to wonder if Chelsea really do want Modric, would letting Drogba go be an option they are more than happy to entertain bearing in mind his age?
So Chelsea fans and any Spurs fans reading this (if you are) how would you feel about this deal if what is being discussed here happens?. Do you think it's good for your club?

I'd go for it, from a Chelsea perspective. We NEED to get rid of Drogba if we are ever going to evolve as a team. When Drigba is on the pitch, he is effective, but it means we are going to sit back and send long balls. Torres can't play that way. Switching between them every week will just confuse the rest of the squad as we are forced to play different ways to accommodate the striker at the time. Also, Drogba is near the end and Modric is just entering his peak years. We need midfielders and we have plenty of options up front. I would do £20mil + Drogba for Modders.
ReplyDeleteDrogba NO! Why swapping Drogba for Modric, intead Kalou or Anelka can be swap for Modric. We can even use Malouda as bait for Modric but definately not Drogba. Even if Drogba wants out we can sale him to another league not premiership team.
