After posting about the "word of mouth" rumour that Didier Drogba would be included in a possible deal for Luka Modric, it now appears this morning the latest rumour concerning the deal would involve Yossi Benayoun and Salomon Kalou plus £27m.
I have to say, Benayoun isn't a player that can force his way into the squad making regular starts. In addition to that Josh McEachran SHOULD BE ahead of him in the pecking order for first team starts now after his performances in pre-season.
I for one, have nothing against Benayoun as I have said on numerous occasions on here before but from the moment he signed for the club I called into question the signing. My reasoning is pure and simple. If we were to make signings last season to bolster our double winning side ahead of last season, you want to sign players that would provide your current squad members with stiff competition for places.
So, this time last season after winning the double, when the likes of Frank Lampard and Michael Essien saw Yossi sign for Chelsea, they never once thought to themselves "he's here we had better fight for our places!". Instead they would have thought, "He isn't getting picked ahead of me is he!"..
I know Benayoun was injured for the most part of the season and when he did come back the only real thing that excited me about him was his link up play with Torres to try and get goals for the Spaniard towards the end of last season.
Again, this season, I can't see Benayoun providing the likes of Lampard, Ramires, Essien and now McEachran with competition once more. So to me, I would get rid of him.
As for Kalou it's slightly different. I will say though, bearing in mind this pre season has been about trying to impress the new manager and having a chance to show what you can, Kalou hasn't done a stroke. He has been a real disappointment in my eyes so god only knows what AVB thinks of him and his performances.
OK, he got the start on Sunday against Stoke but apart from the header at the end, he didn't do anything much at all. Everything he tried never came off, he lost the ball and ended up on the floor most of the time.
If I was Anelka watching his performances in pre season I would have had the ump if he was selected in front of me for the Stoke game.
In Kalou's defence though, one thing that does go in his favour is his pace with the ball at his feet, his unpredictability and the fact that he is willing to have a go at taking players on.
The problem is, he seems to be at his most effective when he comes off the bench. At the moment it seems that it's his willingness to have a go and beat his man that holds him in favour with AVB but that should only be the case if there is an end product. Right now, there isn't!.
So it leaves Spurs in all this. They don't want to lose arguably their best player last season so would they now be willing to cash in and take Benayoun and Kalou as part of the deal if this is true?. If I was Harry Redknapp, I wouldn't but that's just me being honest.
What do you think about news of this new deal offered to Spurs?. Chelsea fans are you happy to see these two leave for Modric and would we have enough cover? Spurs fans, would you be happy taking Benayoun and Kalou plus the £27m ??

ReplyDeleteJst give out kalou and forget the cash. He's uttermostly useless!
ReplyDeleteBoth can go, i agree totally with Anelka should start ahead of kalou, I cannot see what he offers, even the drog would be more use on the right. We need two world class wingers/ wide forwards as malouda is ok on his day but compared to ronaldo, messi, pedro, de maria, sanchez, young and probably even nani and valencia does not do it enough. Get luka and neymar
ReplyDeletenow please. Also as a side point torres 50 mil aguero 25 mil, well done chelsea, when will we/roman learn?!
