ESSIEN: Major blow but let's not jump to any conclusions.

Let's get one thing straight and to put on record here right now, news of yet another injury to Michael Essien's knee is a major blow to us ahead of this season.

It doesn't matter what you think of Essien's performance last season, we have to put that to one side and think about what he does bring to the squad and the first team.

Michael Essien is a player that anyone would love to have in their team. His power and strength provides us with a different option to our midfield. His versatility to play in a number of positions would have provided AVB with different options.

Essien has had numerous injury problems and especially with his right knee and news of this new injury the other day has already started the speculation about his career being over. It's important that we don't jump to any conclusions right now until we hear confirmation from the club as to the extent of the damage.

It's not news any of us wanted to hear about any of our players in the most important time ahead of the new season. Let's hope the injury isn't as bad as we think, that no one else gets injured and Michael Essien gets back into the Chelsea first team sooner rather than later.
