After speculation this week that he would be involved as part of the deal to bring Wesley Sneijder to Stamford Bridge, Michael Essien has insisted he is unaware of speculation regarding his Chelsea future and his future lies with us.
He said:
"I do not care about the rumours, I am calm. Nobody from Chelsea has told me anything and I have a contract with them."(Source)
I think when we look back on last season, Essien is one of the names that pops into your head for having a disappointing season. Essien had his problems with knocks and silly suspensions that cost us at times last season. The stupid sending off against Fulham at home and the three game ban that followed happened at the same time we had Alex, Lampard and JT injured and with Drogba playing with Malaria.
I am only going based on his previous seasons at the club and you have to admit his performances were mediocre to say the least. I just wonder if the emergence of Ramires played a part?.
We are so used to seeing Essien being named as one of the first on the team sheet and would see him command that midfield from box to box but something happened this season and we never really saw him get going.
I know some people think maybe he should leave if the right offer came in, but all I will say is, at the age he is, the strength he has and the fact that hopefully the new manager can come in and get the best out of him, surely we need to keep hold of him don't we?

I agree with you that we should hang on to Essien. He has done a lot in the past for the team - be it saving Jose home record against Arsenal by scoring his best goal for Chelsea or playing right back to fill in a depleting back line or being the rock even as center back. I would like to see him get the chance to get back to his true form because if he does he is of great value for the club. But if he has another disappointing season, then we can let him go.
