As reported in plenty of newspapers today, it seems that Jose Mourinho has an eye on making a move for Michael Essien. Their are figures being touted of between £18 - £35m for the our midfielder.
Essien in the last few days, has become the focus of media attention with his name being linked to a possible Chelsea move for Wesley Sneijder and being sold to Inter as part of the deal and now we have reports that Real Madrid are interested.
I have to say I like Essien and we need to make sure we can get him back to his best sooner rather than later if we are to keep him. For Chelsea to be challenging on all fronts next season we need our best players fit and some people will argue that Essien hasn't been fully fit for two years now with all the injury problems he has had.
Of course £18m - £35m is a lot of money but you do have to ask yourselves the question:
It could all just be paper talk again but if the reports are true that Chelsea ARE open to the idea of making selling Essien then I would imagine you would be looking nearer the £35m mark. Maybe just maybe, Madrid will look elsewhere and we get to keep our man.

ChelseaDaft, I'm with you on wanting to keep Essien if possible. But if we can get around 35 or MORE (afterall this is Real Madrid we are talking about), it will be enticing. Especially, if we can bring in Sneijder in return. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteYou can't think of bringing sneijder in for Essien! Completely different players and we would struggle without a holding midfielder with the calibre of Essien. Especially as we only really have one other established holding midfielder in Mikel (did I just say established...!?) Would be a good move if we could get either Modric or Sneijder. In my opinion it would be a great deal by using Drogba as bait. Realistically Drogba only has 1 or 2 seasons left at the top and we should cash in on him while we can. I don't see Drogba getting much action next year if he stays as it is. If Abramovich wants to see flair we should bring in Neymar. The backbone of the team in Terry/Lampard/Drogba certainly needs refreshing.
