In another "report" featured in the Mirror, Chelsea are the subject of speculation once more. The thing is, until the manager is appointed there will not be any signings being made because surely, the manager is the biggest signing of our summer. Anyway, papers have to be sold and this particular story is sure to grab attention.
The article states that Didier Drogba could be used as a potential pawn to Spurs for a deal to bring Luka Modric to Stamford Bridge. The article goes onto state how Modric has been identified as the man to unlock the door for Fernando Torres at Chelsea and a money plus Drogba deal could be on the cards.
We all know the talent Modric has and speaking to the Spurs fans I know, Modric has been their best player. Harry Redknapp has said he doesn't want to sell and has had assurances that the player will not be sold.
The Drogba factor takes this potential deal to another level. I for one don't believe it at all but both sets of supporters need to look at the situation if indeed it did come true.
From Chelsea's point of view, the whole Drogba thing is now 50/50 and that really is saying something after what Drogba has given the club in the time he has been here. Yes I know he can be a liability when not interested or up for a game but it's what he brings to the table when he IS up for the game and is hungry for the ball.
You could argue (looking from the outside in) that Spurs need someone like a Didier Drogba to take them to the next level. If you think about it now, Spurs don't have the power and strength up front to hold a ball up when their defence and midfield is under the kosh. Just like the Arsenal (sorry Spurs fans) if they had a Drogba in their attack they would be challenging for the title in my opinion because on his game Didier Drogba is unplayable.
So it leads me to ask the question:
As for offering him as part of a deal, I don't agree with it to be honest. If he is to go, then he should decide how he leaves the club and the club should afford him that because of what he has done for Chelsea.
As for offering him to Spurs!?... WTF!
As for Modric, would love him at Chelsea to replace Benayoun. Would be class in our midfield and well worth any transfer fee paid for him. Spurs have more than enough midfielders and could even replace him with someone like Charlie Adam or something.
I have to say though, despite all this, I cannot see Spurs selling this season unless the player himself asks for a move purely and simply for Champions League football. If he does ask for a move there would be plenty of offers on the table for Modric and maybe just maybe if the story is true, Drogba being thrown in could be the one that tempts Arry' to sell.
What do you people think? Do you think the move will go ahead? Would Chelsea fans be happy seeing Drogba being used as a makeweight for Modric? and would Spurs fans be happy to take Drogba for Modric?

So it leads me to ask the question:
If he is good enough for Spurs and Arsenal, is he still good enough for Chelsea?I believe he is but there is a real problem getting the Torres and Drogba partnership to work. If someone can crack it with these two, then without question we had the best strike force in the country. It's just hedging all our bets on them two doing so!.
