Well after reading the amount of comments on here after my last two blog posts asking you all to have some perspective and your view on whether our season has been a failure, it seems to me that opinion is split amongst you lot. Press coverage has gone through the roof since the final whistle blew at Old Trafford and as per usual people are either jumping on the "Chelsea clear out" bandwagon or suffering from ridiculous knee jerk-isms!.
You see, the more you think about it, the more of a quandary it becomes. You would have reason for both sides of the argument with more than valid reasoning. Do Chelsea need a clear out of the deadwood? Yes would be the answer you would get from most people but the question that makes you stop and think about it realistically is the question I am going to ask you all now:
Just how much of a clear out is needed at Chelsea?
It's very easy for all of us to watch the game on Sunday and point the finger at all sorts of reasons for the defeat. It's very easy for us to be critical of the club we love so dearly and it's because of pure frustration for the most part of the season that we do so, and will continue to debate until the deadline to enter our squad to the Premier League next season passes.
We all have an opinion of our club and our squad and everybody is different and that's the beauty of football. I just wonder if the Chelsea board or directors or Mr Abramovich takes a real deeper interest in the views of the fans and reads articles such as this to try and gauge the feeling out here.
One thing is certain, each and every single one of us will be waiting for any kind of news on players coming to Chelsea and leaving us and again will have an opinion.
However, I want to make one thing clear, it's my own personal feeling and I do expect some of you reading this and kindly commenting and giving your points of view, to have a different opinion. Chelsea have to be very careful.
The reason I am saying we have to be careful is because of what happened last summer. We all saw big names and players with a wealth of experience leave the club. Maybe to bring the wage bill down as some of them were of a "certain age" but generally they were never replaced. Instead, Chelsea opted for a policy of bring through youngsters into the squad and in some part that has been successful for us with someone like Josh McEachran making an impact.
None of us could ever for see what would happen to important key players of our side during the same period of time that would cost us so dear this season. Never before have we had so many injuries and other problems that coincide with each other that saw our form, result and subsequently our league position suffer. I don't think any one of you will ever forget looking at that scoreboard at the final whistle against Sunderland at Stamford Bridge!.
Chelsea's new policy had been found out in a way we would never had envisaged and it has cost us dearly. Yes I know we have had certain performances this season where we simply never showed up or played anywhere near like the way we could, but we are still there or thereabouts this season which sends a message to us all.
If we decide to make rash decisions and release a whole host of players as we look to regenerate our squad and our team, we need to ensure we have the right players to step into the breach and more or less hit the ground running when the season starts. Could we honestly expect that from players who have no Premier League experience?.
It's all well and good being linked to everyone and their mother out there at the moment but most of it is bullshit. Imagine that you are a players agent and you know your client is highly regarded. Wouldn't you put out stories of your player being linked with major clubs from the top European leagues to either get the payday your player deserves from his current club or elsewhere?. This is my point, I wouldn't believe anything you are hearing about at the moment until we have something substantial to comment on come the summer.
Another point I want to make is that apart from a couple of players on the fringes of the team, I can't see Chelsea making these drastic decisions that so many of you are calling for. We are hearing about a club needing stability as far as it's manager is concerned, well surely that has to be the same for the players doesn't it?
Someone said that Chelsea need to be brave as Ferguson was when he made the decision to get rid of the likes of Paul Ince, Jaap Stam and David Beckham and move on with younger players. Is this something you would want to see at Chelsea? I am referring to letting the likes of Drogba and Lampard go?.
For me personally I think we will see the likes of Hilaro, Turnbull, Ferreira, Bosingwa, Zhirkov and Anelka leave and that would be it. So we would need to bring in some keepers, a right back, a winger and a forward to make competition for places more intense.
We have to take heart from the three signings that have come to the club this season and that's Ramires, Luiz and Torres. These three will be our future for the next four to five seasons. The club has already started to build and we have to be positive that Luiz and Torres came into the squad back in January so will have had time to bed in and settle down before the summer comes round.
I cannot emphasise this point enough to you, there have been lessons learned this season both on and off the pitch and I honestly believe that the situation we found ourselves back in November and December would have left a real mark on the decision makers at the club which is why I do not believe you will see the likes of Drogba, Malouda, Mikel and Lampard leave the club this summer.
I could of course be totally wrong. If I was, could we see what happened this season happen all over again? What do you think?
