Danny Sturridge is featured on the Official Chelsea Website today in their regular Thursday Interview feature and has opened up about his time this season at Bolton and his hopes for the future. Which leads me to asking for your opinions further down below.
He said:
It's been a good period for me so far playing for Bolton and I've been given an opportunity to play some regular first-team football and play 90 minutes, so it's superb for my career and it's helped me become a better player, hopefully for Chelsea's benefit. There is no question Danny Sturridge has the ability. We all knew it before he came to Chelsea but we have only seen glimpses of what he could do here when he was played up front because most of the time he was brought on as a substitute down the right wing.
It's great to have this opportunity and it has been good to show Chelsea what I'm all about. It was difficult for me not starting as many games as I'd have liked, as a young player with a lot of pressure you have to take the opportunities that are in front of you.
If you don't, people will say you're not ready but I think I've always been ready. Hopefully next season the manager will see me working hard and give me the opportunities to play games as a striker. That's where I love to play.
I love playing for Chelsea, and I don't want to be anywhere else, but if I need to play somewhere else on loan again next season I will do, but my main aim is to fight for my place at Chelsea and begin starting games regularly in the first team as opposed to sitting on the bench.'
Bolton has been a fantastic move for him and he really has shown what he can do. He has scored goals, he has fed of the confidence and belief that Owen Coyle has shown in him and looks happy and enjoying his football.
The question remains however, where will he fit in at Chelsea next season. I think it's safe to say that Chelsea have Torres, Drogba and Anelka ahead of him in the pecking order, which explains his Loan to Bolton, but I am just wondering how Chelsea will approach next season and if Sturridge will feature as part of those plans.
He has spoken about being realistic and facing another season going out on Loan again and you have to wonder if that in fact is the most likely possibility.
The argument here though for most of us, is that we keep hearing reports of regenerating our squad and bringing the average age down, well we have a ready made replacement within our ranks, someone who has that natural instinct to score goals and blessed with amazing pace.
So I am asking you the Chelsea fan reading this:
Would Danny Sturridge be in your plans and maybe the starting eleven next season?
