Frank Lampard makes his 500th appearance for Chelsea tonight and was asked about reaching such a milestone in his ten years at the club. He said:
'I will take a lot of pride in it, It is very humbling to join Ron Harris, Peter Bonetti and John Hollins in playing 500 games. Those are the big names that people talk about from years gone by and John Terry is just short of 500 as well.(Chelseafc.com)
We have been here in the most successful patch in the club's history and I have been very fortunate to play in a good club, with a good owner and good managers who have all had trust in me and I am very honoured to join the 500 club.
I never expected to play 500 games when I came here and I've crammed them into ten years but it is not the main importance tomorrow. It will give me an extra boost with the confidence of the milestone but it is too big a game to worry about it being my 500th game.
I kind of would have preferred it to have been against Stoke last Saturday to get it out the way, but the main thing is to perform to help us get the right result.'
I guess the occasion tonight will overshadow this amazing achievement by Lampard who, once he stops playing, will go down in history as one of our best ever players. Frank Lampard is a Chelsea legend already and it's people like Frank that could prove to be the difference for Chelsea in this seasons Champions League starting with United tonight.
If Chelsea are to win the Champions League this season, we need Frank Lampard to step up and rise to the challenge and motivate others around him to do the same, just like he has done 499 times beforehand.
Although the game tonight is massive, I wanted to post the most relevant video on here to celebrate the best (so far) of Frank Lampard in the 500 games in ten years he has given us at Chelsea.
