Fernando Torres has spoken of his time at Chelsea since he arrived on deadline day and how he has settled in. At the moment the press are having a field day about the fact that he has failed to score so far and all the Liverpool fans keep banging on about it.
Torres has spoken of the confidence he has in himself and the team which is encouraging and I am sure his first goals for the club are only around the corner.
He said:
"It's important to understand the style of football your team is playing - how you are involved in the system and everything, This always takes some time. I think, once you get it, everything becomes much easier. The important thing is to have different options in the way you play.
If you want to be a top player, you have to be able to play in all these situations and I'm sure here at Chelsea I will play in different positions sometimes. I'm ready for this because I want to play where the manager asks me to - I know the competition is high here.
I think when you make a decision this important you must be sure you can do it, otherwise it's not worth moving to a club like Chelsea, You have to have confidence in yourself and you have to work harder than everyone else because you are the new player to arrive at the club.
I have confidence in myself, I have confidence in this team and I have tried to become involved in everything this team is doing from the first day. You are always, not worried, but a bit shy when you arrive on the first day and you want to do many things - go here, go there, train well, meet everyone. The atmosphere was very good, they have made it very easy for me.
For me, of course, it's very important to find a house or an apartment and bring my family to live here with me now. It's tough in the beginning when you are in a hotel and you just go to the training ground. You haven't got a car or anything - you cannot live a normal life - so, obviously, it's different to what you're used to. Hopefully, I can find somewhere as soon as possible and I can start living here."
When you become one the superstars of the Premier League, and let's face it he was at Liverpool and he is even more so now he has joined us, there is always going to be a focus of attention on you. When you add a transfer fee of £50m to the equation it will add more pressure.
To me judging by the way he has spoken in the interviews he has given, he remains a level headed bloke with his head screwed on. You don't hear of anything away from football about him or any front page headlines in the newspapers. He just wants to concentrate on his football and improve as a player and to add something to Chelsea.
One thing that has always stuck out about Torres and I don't think any other fan in Europe or the country would argue against is just how good his movement off the ball is. It's just finding that level of understanding with his team mates at the moment to look for his runs or to know where he will make a run to. It's beginning to develop as we have seen especially against Copenhagen and United the other day but will develop even further over time.
I have said it about Torres before and I will say it again. "Form is temporary, class is permanent" and that's definitely the case with Torres. It's only a matter of time until he hits the back of the net on a consistent basis. For now, I have been impressed with his work rate off the ball so if you think about it, if you add goals to everything else he has brought to the club, we have made one hell of a signing!.
What do you think about Torres so far in a Chelsea shirt?
KTBFFH.
I think he has played well. Yes, goals will come eventually, but for now he has helped us greatly with his movement, passing, and also the attention he draws from defenders. Him getting double teamed really helped Anelka at Copenhagen. He has deservedly got that front spot over Didi, but it's sad that they will be competing for one spot, unless Carlo can figure out how to play all 3 potent strikers.
