Ron Gourlay is featured on the BBC this morning after speaking to Radio 5 Live's Sportsweek and an extract taken from that interview is being blown out of all proportion around the net.
The timing comes as no surprise as Chelsea are back on a run of form, looking good in the Champions League and looking to chase down Manchester United in the Premier League.
When asked about Carlo Ancelotti and if he would be staying at the club, Gourlay responded by saying:
"All you can say is that Carlo has a contract with the club until 2012, We're delighted with Carlo and what he's achieved so far. These things can be pretty fickle. Carlo has come in and won the double last season. Yes, the expectations are high, but they are high at many clubs around Europe and we've got to be realistic. Let's see where we are at the end of May.
Carlos is a world class coach, You look at his record and it speaks for itself. His record at Chelsea in a short time, winning the double in the first season in a new league, coming out of Italy, is a great feat.
This is a strong, competitive league, but his knowledge of the game is second to none and he holds a dressing room well. He's won the Champions League twice as a coach and twice as a player so he's been there and done it.
We understand it is very, very difficult to win trophies every year. What's very important for this club is to be competiting for trophies in the latter stages of every competition."
Of course as you can imagine the comment about seeing where we are in May is the focus of coverage today.
People need to remember that we still have a long way to go before the end of the season. There will always be speculation at Chelsea and we will have to deal with it between now and the end of the season. For example, if (god forbid) we do not get the right result today, then all this will start up again about Carlo and this interview featured above will be become the focus of much more about Carlo and Chelsea's intentions in the future.
The best thing we can all do for now is get behind Carlo and the team and see exactly where our season finishes up. After all, we still could pull off a remarkable comeback in the League and you never know, we could still end up at Wembley in May!.
