Well that was easy now wasn't it even if a couple of goals would have been nice along the way. First of all credit to FC Copenhagen for coming to the Bridge to play their football and for having a go and secondly, fair play to their fans who never stopped singing all game. It makes you realise that the competition we take for granted at Chelsea, means so much to a club like Copenhagen.
Let's be honest here, I could be over critical about our performance and lack of goals. I could be over critical about giving away silly free kicks in dangerous areas but I am not going to for the simple reason that the game was the just a chance for our players to get a game under their belt after a break of nine days ahead of the big one against City on Sunday.
Apart from a dangerous free kick that smacked the post from Copenhagen, Petr Cech never had to worry or make any real saves of note. It was another solid defensive display at home in the Champions League and further evidence of the foundation we have that could be key for us to progress to the final stages and beyond.
Alot was made of Torres being rested but in response to that so was Malouda and Essien but you don't have to read pages of reports about being dropped. Torres came on for just over 20 minutes, Essien and Malouda around 10 minutes so all three will be fresh if selected for the weekend.
Chelsea created numerous chances but lacked that finish to round off some fantastic moves we created especially in the first half. The Drogba/Anelka combination was working well up front and Anelka was causing all sorts of problems. Yuri Khirkov fired wide first from 8 yards and then from point blank range at the near post as he was put under immediate pressure on both occasions.
Ashley Cole and Anelka both hit the side netting in the first half, Didier Drogba side footed a shot wide in the second half when it looked easier to score from a fantastic Bosingwa cross and Mikel headed against the crossbar from close range. You had the feeling it wasn't going to be our day.
The most important thing is that we are through and reach the last eight of the competition once again. Fate will decide who we are drawn against tomorrow morning.
Chelsea will need to play better and be more ruthless against the bigger sides in order to progress to the final stages.
