John Terry has taken time out to speak of Joe Cole and his return to Stamford Bridge this time as a Liverpool player. Whether or not we will see Joe Cole featuring in the game today is another thing but still, Terry wanted to speak of his mate Cole. He said:
I've spoken with Coley quite a bit since he left seeing how he has settled in, and obviously he is quite frustrated, he wanted to go there and do well but Liverpool as a team haven't done so well, At times like that when the team isn't doing well it's hard to do well yourself, but we all know the quality Joe's got, and they've shown signs of picking up, but hopefully it's later rather than sooner.(Source:Chelseafc.com)
I just love Coley as a character, when we'd go away for two or three days and he'd just pack a toothbrush, toothpaste and a spare pair of pants, in the smallest bag. Everyone else had big holdalls and he had his mobile, that was it, he was just really random. He'd get off the bus and he'd have forgotten his phone, or his glasses, or his bag. He'd get in and ask if I had his bag, and I'd say, "No I've got my own bag, why haven't you got yours?" That sums him up, but on the pitch he was different class and a great lad to have around the place as well.
I guess the events of this week has put Joe Cole's move into perspective for me and I can understand how the Liverpool fans feel. When Joe left Chelsea I never had a problem with it as let's face it he struggled towards the end to get a start in games. Whether or not that was down to his personal form or the form of Florent Malouda as I had asked at the time, I'm not so sure.
It's what he said afterwards that really pissed me off!. He said he had moved to "The biggest club in England" and was a kick in the teeth for me and all of us Chelsea fans. As I said, I now can understand how the Liverpool fans have felt this week, but as Fernando says, "It's football life" so we had to accept it and move on. I still had a dig at Joe a few weeks back and Liverpool as it was hard to let it go but we really do have to move on.
What we need to remember is what Joe Cole did for Chelsea in his time at the club. Joe played for Chelsea for seven seasons, playing 283 games and scoring 40 goals. He was an important part of Chelsea winning the league title for the first time in 50 years and then two more. He won the FA Cup three times and the League Cup twice.
At the time it was announced he was leaving the club I wrote a post "Joe Cole, one of the most naturally gifted players Chelsea have ever seen" and I still stand by that. The Chelsea fans know exactly what he is capable of and with him fit, Liverpool will be a much better side with him playing.
If Joe Cole is involved today, I will personally applaud him and look past the rubbish he came out with when he signed for Liverpool. I will give him a show of thanks like I would all those Chelsea players who brought the title back to Stamford Bridge for the first time in 50 years because it's important what the player did for us and gave to Chelsea. Maybe, in time Liverpool fans will feel the same about Torres eh?.
He was here, he was there, he was every-f**king where, Joey Cole!, Joey Cole!KTBFFH
