Tonight is massive. Tonight is our chance to get revenge from the lowest point of our season. I for one will find it hard to forget the feeling we all had at the final whistle at Stamford Bridge after being beaten 3-0. I said at the time, and am happy to go on record again to say Sunderland deserved their three points that night. Chelsea will travel up north with bruised ego's and a point to prove, with two new signings watching from a far itching to get involved so I expect a much better performance from Everton last Saturday and hopefully another important three points.
Luiz and Torres will not feature tonight so expect Chelsea to line up with more or less the same side that started against Everton. If we do make any changes then I can see Carlo swapping Mikel with Ramires which will allow Essien to move forward next to Lampard. We missed Essien's forward runs and dynamic on Saturday as he seems stifled in the holding role. Mikel if he plays, will sit as he always does and provide cover for the back four.
Sunderland are no pushovers tonight. With their new signing Stephane Sessegnon available he could step straight into the side up with Gyan who had a great game against us at the Bridge. Steve Bruce has done a fantastic job there and is building a much stronger squad than they have had their before and will want his side to work hard tonight. Expect Sunderland to pressurise Chelsea when we have the ball, close us down and look to force us into errors. Chelsea need to get their passing going, we cannot afford to give the ball away.
Once again at this stage of the season, Chelsea need to match the work rate of our opponents, need to close them down and push up and press higher up the pitch. We cannot allow Sunderland time and space on the ball. If Chelsea can do that and when we get the ball back, we must play quicker and at a good tempo.
We all know and were reminded of how well we can play when we played Bolton just over a week ago. Another performance of the same level is required tonight. I just hope that we remain composed at the same time and put in a professional performance. We certainly have the players to do it, I just hope they all raise their game tonight.
We all sit here and wonder what "Chelsea" we will see tonight at the Stadium of Light?. With revenge in their minds, a point to prove and knowing they finally have competition for places and are not certain starters anymore, I just wonder if tonight sparks the start of something truly special at the club. Let's hope so.
Chelsea to win by two as long as they play well.
Carefree & KTBFFH!
