Five Chelsea players to face axe!? - THE SUN

It comes as no surprise after Roman spending over £70m this week to sign Fernando Torres and David Luiz and Chelsea winning again to make it three Premier League wins on the spin, that the Sun has once again chosen to write an article here, stating that Chelsea will be looking to offload five under performing players this summer in order to balance the books.

The article names Didier Drogba, Florent Malouda, John Obi Mikel, Jose Bosingwa and Yuri Zhirkov as the players in question and it goes on to "quote" a so called "Chelsea source" who says the following:

"There are a few big names and big earners whose performances have fallen short this season. If things don't improve there will be some notable casualties in the summer. The competition for places will be keener now and that should be a great motivation for everyone."

This isn't the only article we should expect from now until the end of the season no matter how successful we are or aren't in that case. It's typical once again. Chelsea played their football and played well, Torres signed Monday and has been training with the squad for two days so they haven't really had a lot to write about.

Torres is due to give his Press Conference this afternoon so I am sure that will fill the pages for the next two days.

One thing I do agree on is the fact that the two signings will give everyone a lift and serve notice that there is now competition for places. As for the players named as this so called five, it may or not be the case come the summer, but now is not the time to even consider instances such as these.

We've got a title race to get back into, a Champions League challenge to continue and the defence of our FA Cup to think about first!.
