Once again before a crunch tie involving Chelsea, The Mersey Juror has provided an opinion of the game from a Liverpool perspective. With it being a week where both clubs have been making all the headlines, and with the massive game tomorrow here is their view on the game tomorrow.
Fate would have it that Liverpool play Chelsea this weekend. You can just hear the folks at Sky licking their lips at this one. After the Sky Sports News soap opera on "Transfer Deadline Day", they are sure to make a song and dance about Sunday but who can blame them because you couldn't write a better script.KTBFFH.
Liverpool fans always knew that Fernando Torres was going to leave and we wouldn't have blamed him. He came to Liverpool to play on the big stage and to win trophies. The truth of the matter is that under the previous regime the club has declined and we are no longer able to help Fernando fulfil his ambitions. Although the signs are good for Liverpool moving forward, he couldn't afford to sit still any longer.
It is the manner in which he has left the club which has hurt the fans. He always said he would never join another English club and he put in a transfer request three days before the transfer window closed. Some of the comments he has made since joining Chelsea have also left a bitter taste in the mouth. He hasn't played well for 15 months and we have all been making excuses for him, but the truth is he has been sulking and giving very little effort. We should never have let him do that to us.
But he has gone now and as Dalglish has said, no individual is bigger than the club. We no longer have to worry about how Fernando is feeling and in all honesty the Torres burden has been lifted and we can concentrate on the players who want to be here. I think the whole episode will make us stronger and hopefully he will pull his hamstring in the first five minutes on Sunday!
The club have moved fast in replacing Fernando and that is comforting. It has been a long time since Liverpool have acted in such a positive manner and I think that has help ease a lot of concerns. Most importantly, Liverpool are doing the right things now. We have a leader who knows what is best for the club and there is a unity there that has been missing for too long.
You only have to look around the Premier League to find clubs who are unable to spend money they receive on players. The two players we have signed are young and have massive potential. Unfortunately Carroll is unfit but Suarez came on midweek and looked really good. My gut instinct is that Suarez will be on the bench and Kuyt will be up front.
Chelsea made a massive signal of intent last week. The two players your lot have bought are proven world class. The Chelsea players have looked really short in confidence of late but I think the fresh influx should get them back on their toes. Ambramovich has shown he is ready to act and no player will want to be sacrificed. The likes of Essien, Anelka and Drogba have been letting your side down lately but I think the positive moves from last week will serve as a good kick up the backside. One thing is certain, a front line of Drogba, Torres and Anelka has the potential to be unstoppable.
Chelsea need the three points a lot more than Liverpool, who are just happy to be in 7th after the year we've had. Anything less from Chelsea will have the "Sky Experts" claiming they are no longer in the title race. The Chelsea of the past five years would meet that challenge head on and put in the performance of champions, is that still the case? I guess we will know at tea time this Sunday.
I'm not going to lie, I want to beat Chelsea desperately and rub Fernando's face right in it. In a years time I want him to be regretting the move he has made, just like Michael Owen, Ian Rush and Kevin Keegan did before him. Am I confident both of these things will happen? I think you have to be otherwise there is no point supporting your club.
