I have to say I am gutted about this one like the rest of you. To see us lose on Penalties again is hard to take but as Carlo said after the game. "We have to move on". The problem for me is the fact that it should never have got that far anyway. Tim Howard kept Everton in the game as it was another 90 minutes passed without a Chelsea goal and let's be honest here, how long can we carry on playing like this.

With Fernando Torres and David Luiz missing it was a chance for Ancelotti to play our tried and trusted formation of 4-3-3. Malouda and Kalou played next to Drogba up front, Lampard and Ramires played in front of Mikel in the middle. Paulo Ferriera came in at right back with Ivanovic next to JT. We had our shape back, we had width and options from midfield getting forward to support the front men.

I had said in my match preview that Everton is always a hard game. We know from previous games against Moyes' said that it's normally a close encounter and Saturday proved to be the case once more.

The first chance we created was from a Lampard cross into the box that came off an Everton defenders head and Howard had to tip the ball onto the post. JT was the first to react on the half volley but couldn't keep his effort under control and he attempt flew high over the bar.

Lampard then tested Howard who blocked his attempt and Drogba fired the rebound wide. Drogba then played in Malouda who was in on goal but Howard again came off his line and blocked Malouda's attempt and forced the ball wide for a corner.

Then one moment in the game that incensed all of us. Ramires through on goal knocked the ball passes Howard who dived at his feet, Ramires went down and was booked for diving. At the time it looked a stone wall penalty, but after seeing the replay on TV, Ramires drags both his feet expecting to be clipped by the keeper and now I admit the referee was right.

Everton hadn't really created any real danger in the first half. Half time 0-0.

Essien came on for Mikel at the start of the second half after Mikel had taken a sore knock from Arteta earlier in the first half.

Within minutes Howard was scrambling across his goal-line again. A Drogba free kick floated across goal beat everyone but Howard as the slightest touch from anyone would see the ball hit the net.

Lampard had the next chance going close from a header before Leon Osman headed straight at Cech when it looked like it was easier to score.

Howard again proved to be the difference as he first saved from Lampard and then Ivanovic both from close range. Chelsea looked to be turning the screw. Again Lampard had another attempt on goal, this time from 20 yards but once more couldn't keep it down. He then tried to chip the ball over Howard with minutes remaining but once again it was off target.

On 88 minutes Everton had the ball in the back of the net after a Leighton Baines shot from the edge of the box was parried by Cech and the rebound turned into the net by Felliani who had reacted quicker than anyone. Thankfully it was ruled offside. Everton although under the kosh were still in this game. 0-0 at full time.

We were now into Extra Time. Anelka came on for Malouda.

Drogba chipped the ball over the bar in the first half chance of note and then Frank Lampard shot wide. As time moved on you had to wonder if we would ever find the target. Our question was answered minutes later.

The ball was cleared by Everton. Anelka jumped above two Everton players to win the ball and bring it under control right on the touchline on the right hand side. Facing the West Stand and with Baines and Distin either side of him, he flicked the ball in between them on the turn and was free to make a run to the byline.

He took a touch then crossed the ball into the box, Drogba just inside the box chested the ball down right into the path of Lampard who drilled his shot into the bottom left hand corner with Howard finally beaten. 1-0 Chelsea.

Half time in extra time. Zhirkov comes on for Kalou.

All we needed to do now was play our football and not doing anything stupid. We looked comfortable as Everton advanced looking to get a goal. They got their goal after Ivanovic was judged to committed a foul on the edge of the area dead centre of the pitch. As I am sitting there watching Baines tee the ball up and Cech on his line I just knew it would be on target, I just hoped Cech would take a gamble and get across his line in anticipation to deal with it.

Cech never did, Baines got it on target and the ball flew into the corner. Great free kick you have to say and it was 1-1. Michael Essien had a final shot for Chelsea before the dreaded penalty shoot out, but once again Howard clung on to the ball. Final Score 1-1.

So we had to face penalties again and we started off well as Lampard blasted his high into the roof of the net and Cech then saved from Baines. Drogba stepped up and calmly side footed the ball into the net as Jagielka scored for Everton.

Then Anelka missed again and being honest never looked comfortable or happy with taking a penalty. It was almost identical to the Champions League final miss as Howard saved to his right. Arteta scored his penalty to even things up. 2-2 on pens after three penalties.

Michael Essien then stepped up and drilled his penalty into the net as Heitinga did the same for Everton. As Ashley Cole walked up to take our fifth penalty Heitinga made sure he put him off as he barged into him walking back the other way and I think it maybe played on Cole's mind. Cole, leaning back as he struck the ball, slotted it high and wide and it was now down to Phil Neville to score to win the game. He smacked it into the top corner and Chelsea were out.

I am gutted because we were the better side, we had created chances (not many clear cut) and didn't take them. Once again the penalty shoot out does us again and it is hard to take.

Credit to Everton for keeping going and keeping their heads from 12 yards and I hope you go on and win the competition now and get your form in the league sorted and move up and away from danger.

As for Chelsea, it's another disappointment in a season that looked like promising so much.

KTBFFH.
