Carlo took time out to speak of Fernando Torres' debut yesterday in the game against Liverpool and explained how difficult Liverpool made the game for him and the fact that we didn't help with the tempo we played the game at. He said:
With Chelsea playing to slow and side to side all game, there were no telling through balls to open up their defence at all. Torres and Drogba couldn't find any space in behind and when they had the ball played to their feet, which was about 2 seconds slower than when the ball should have been played to them, they had red shirts all around them. Liverpool got their tactics right and their players did what was asked of them. Chelsea never!.
So do me a favour. Ignore the rubbish being written about Torres this morning. You and I know he will come good and score plenty of goals for Chelsea, as long as we play the way we can!.

Torres did a good job on the pitch but we had difficulty to find space in front, first because Liverpool defended very well, they put three central defenders in the middle, we didn't find a right solution to attack them, and second we had difficulty to play from the back, too slow, and so we didn't find space. As you can imagine the papers are full of comments about Torres this morning and his debut, but to that I ask the question "What did Didier Drogba do during the game?". The only thing Didier Drogba did all game which was also the only time we played a half decent through ball onto the run made by Torres came from Drogba.
Fernando tried to do something, he had good movement and did a good job. He has to try in the training sessions to combine well with the other strikers but this is normal after one game.
He has experience, he has confidence and he didn't show problems before the game. He was enthusiastic to play and didn't show a problem. I took him out because after 60 minutes and a very busy week for him it was good to take him out.
