Of course we have all been wondering since Monday night when the Fernando Torres deal was confirmed as to what formation Carlo will employ to accommodate him. Would he stick with our tried and trusted formation of 4-3-3 and stick Drogba in one of the wide positions?. Would someone like Anelka have to make way? Well, last night those questions were answered for me.
The official Chelsea website, in their match report found here, state our formation as being a 4-1-2-1-2 formation but I have to say I don't buy it. For the majority of the game last night, Salomon Kalou played up front next to Drogba with Nico Anelka in behind. For me anyway, it looks like Carlo will revert back to his long time preferred formation of the 4-diamond-2 formation.
Do we move Drogba out wide?, the answer is no as we would negate the obvious threat he poses. Would Nico Anelka or Florent Malouda make way for Carlo to include Torres I believe they will at the moment.
I believe our starting eleven and formation for Sunday at Stamford Bridge against Liverpool will be the same as last night with Anelka at the tip of the diamond in behind Drogba and Torres who will start in the place of Anelka. Florent Malouda hasn't produced enough on a consistent basis so I believe that he, Ramires and Kalou will start on the bench which is maybe hard on Kalou as he has done everything right in the last two games.
The formation will allow Ashley Cole and Jose Bosingwa the chance to push forward like last night. At Sunderland we have seen Ashley Cole in particular pushing forward much more than he has done in recent weeks. Chelsea were rampant in midfield last night and I really believe Carlo will not change from the formation we used last night.
I asked if Drogba and Torres will be able to play together yesterday, I am almost 100% certain that on Sunday they will have their first chance.
What do you think? Keep last night's formation or try and fit Torres into our 4-3-3?
