Luiz - Have we lost out?

There have been reports this morning that the deal to sign David Luiz is on the verge of collapse and I have to wonder why. At the moment the information we have to work with is that Benfica are negotiating a deal with the majority of the transfer fee being paid up front by Chelsea and not in installments.

ESPN have stated on their website the following:

"The problem is over no more than £1 million. There is a lot of work to be done to get this deal through, if it is at all possible to do so.

The truth is that Benfica don't want to sell, as they think they will get far more money for Luiz in the summer, so they won't budge from their stance of wanting £25 million, and there are further complications over the way the money is then split once it gets to Benfica."

The article also states that Benfica want as much money as they can as a percentage of the monies paid will go to their investment fund Benfica stars and additional payments made to Luiz's former clubs.

For me it's a no brainer but then again I am not the owner of Chelsea Football Club or the Accountant. I would just pay the bloody money and get the deal done but I guess in football nowadays deals are never that straightforward.

I just hope that something happens to appease Benfica and we can get the boy signed!.
