Salomon Kalou is featured in an article on SkySports and has revealed his frustrations at his lack of goals.
He said:
"To be honest with you, every game I play with Chelsea, I come out of it with regret because I feel like I should have scored another goal. My coach growing up Jean-Marc Guillou always used to say, 'The most difficult thing is not knowing how to score but knowing how to create yourself a chance'.Now straight away I am relieved that Kalou feels that way about his game because I am getting to the point that I am getting so frustrated with him that I don't want to turn on him because he does have fantastic ability.
I know that I can create chances for myself, I do it every game and now I just have to concentrate on putting more of them in the net. So that's what my focus is now, because every game I create at least one chance for myself.
Sometimes, I come out of the games with regret because I feel like if I was taking all the chances I get, I would be top scorer. Look at our home game against Fulham, I could have scored three in that game and that is what I want to concentrate on achieving. I score the more difficult goals than the ones I miss.
So I can't say it's because I can't do it. I know that's not true because I've scored hard chances. I think that's what it takes to be a top player -to have one chance and to score. That's what I'm working on now."'
What is also revealing to me is the general opinion you are left with after reading that. At times you watch him running at defenders and beating his man, moving with the ball into the box and you are thinking pass it square or cross it but he shoots!. This interview more or less states that he thinks of his own game first, then the other players. He just lacks composure.
What's blatently obvious is he needs composure at the critical moment in the box whether he is looking to score or to play that killer pass which will end up with us scoring either way. You can see it on the pitch more often than not from the other players who are just looking for a simple pass across the face of the goal or pulled back to them, but Kalou will either run the ball off the pitch, get tackled or lose the ball. More often than not he makes the wrong decisions.
Don't get me wrong, at times he does make the right choices and does score goals. The thing is, we all know he is more than capable, he just needs that composure in his game and he could be the striker he strives to be.
He just needs to take his ability outside the box, running at defenders, creating opportunities or linking up with someone, inside the box. As soon as Kalou can do that then god only knows just how good he can be.
